Arctic Monkeys frontman to record surprise album
[source: NME.com] Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and The Rascals' Miles Kane are set to record an album together later this month.
The pair became friends when Kane's first band, The Little Flames, supported Arctic Monkeys on an early tour.
Kane contributed guitar to Arctic Monkeys' second album Favourite Worst Nightmare and has frequently joined the Sheffield band onstage to play "505.
Now the pair are heading to France to record an album together in mid-August.
"We're there for two weeks and we're going to try to get the majority of it done," Kane told NME.COM. "James Ford is producing it and is going to play drums. Me and Al will do all the bass and guitar and vocals – we'll try to the get the bulk of it done in two weeks. Then, whenever we've got weekends off at the same time, we'd like to get some strings on it and probably do all that back home. That's the plan, anyway."
Kane said the pair still haven't decided what name the project will go under.
"We were thinking Turner & Kane but everyone says it doesn't sound very serious," he explained.
Kane is currently recording The Rascals' debut EP in London – due out in October – with Blur and Elbow producer Ben Hiller.

Musicians create book cover art
[source: NME.com] Razorlight and Ryan Adams are among a number of musicians to design covers for their favourite books as part of a campaign to encourage readers to do the same.
Publishers Penguin hope people will be inspired to fill the blank covers of the seven books with their own art.
Razorlight singer Johnny Borrell redecorated the cover to The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald.
"I was running a sweep on the Grand National in Tokyo and I was writing out a betting slip for everyone. I decided my bookie's name was going to be Gatsby, so the cover of this book is a betting slip."
Meanwhile, Ryan Adams designed the cover to Dracula by Bram Stoker.
"I'm a huge fan of novel sleeve art and wanted to contribute," Adams said. "I can't reveal my secrets but I can reveal that no garlic was harmed in the making of this cover."

DMX goes to the dogs
US rapper DMX has lost a court case in New York, which saw the rapper charged with failing to honour a contract to promote a canine clothing line. According to company Amusing Diversions Inc, the rapper had signed up to promote a brand of caps, scarves and raincoats made especially for pooches, but then failed to mention the goods when doing interviews on television as per the agreed contract.
DMX also reportedly promoted a rival brand during several of his concerts, rather than the agreed Boomer 129 range. DMX must now pay more than AU$242,000 to Amusing Diversions in compensation.

Shannon Noll says Wil Anderson "punches below the belt"
Former Australian Idol star Shannon Noll has opened up about his on-air feud with comedian Wil Anderson, saying the comic's jokes about Noll's father – who was killed in a farming accident – went too far.
"I'm quite aware of what people say about me, and it doesn't bother me one bit," Noll told Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper.
"It comes with the territory and that's fine with me. But my dad isn't here to defend himself and that's a bit much."
Anderson joked about Noll's dad while appearing at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival back in 2006. Noll was so offended he challenged Anderson to a charity boxing match.
Anderson declined the bout, but offered a $2000 contribution to charity as an apology.
"The last thing Australia needs is a singing version of Anthony Mundine," he joked.

Marilyn Manson hiding Nazi memorabilia?
US shock-rocker Marilyn Manson, who's heading to Australia in October, has been accused of purchasing Nazi memorabilia.
A former bandmate claims Manson failed to pay his backing band, instead spending his cash on banned goods. Keyboard player Stephen "Pogo" Bier filed a lawsuit yesterday that accuses the rocker (and his management) of "flinching millions of dollars" from various band members over the years.
An email from Bier's lawyers was sent to the New York Post, stating Manson purchased "a multimillion-dollar home, had a lavish wedding in Ireland, gave an engagement ring to Dita von Teese" and purchased Nazi artefacts and taxidermy… all with bundles of tax-free cash.
The case will be heard later this year.
