Paul Simon to be honoured by Congress
[source: NME.com] Paul Simon will receive honours from the Library of Congress for his lifetime contribution to music.
The singer-songwriter, the first recipient of the Gershwin Prize (named in honour of George and Ira Gershwin), will be presented with the award on Wednesday May 23 at a concert at Washington DC's Warner Theater. The full line-up will be announced shortly and is expected to feature some highly influential artists.
"I am grateful to be the recipient of the Gershwin Prize and doubly honoured to be the first," Simon said. "I look forward to spending an evening in the company of artists I admire at the award ceremony in May. I can think of a few who have expressed my words and music far better than I. I'm excited at the prospect of that happening again. It's a songwriter's dream come true."

Green Day in Simpsons film?
[source: NME.com] Green Day are rumoured to feature in the new Simpsons film.
A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox would not confirm anything, but according to the band's record label, Warner Bros/Reprise, Green Day do make an appearance. It's believed a Green Day song also features in the film.
It's alleged the band can be spotted in the film's trailer, however it's a real blink-and-you'll-miss-it affair.
The movie is due for release in the US on Friday July 27.

All Saints dropped from label
[source: NME.com] All Saints have been dropped by their label following disastrous sales of comeback album Studio 1.
The band were axed by Parlophone Records last week.
"Parlophone Records and All Saints have made the mutual decision to part company," a label spokesperson revealed.
"Both the label and the group are proud of Studio 1. All Saints are excited about moving forward with their career and Parlophone wishes them the best of luck."
The four-piece, however, are reportedly upset about the decision. A band source was quoted in various newspapers as saying, "it got to the point where things couldn't go any further and we had to admit it was over".
"There have been non-stop meetings about how best to break the news to the fans," the source told The Daily Mirror.
The band, who split in 2001 and reformed last year, recently suffered the indignity of seeing "Chick Fit" fail to break into the Top 200.

The Killers vs Kaiser Chiefs
Having baited each other in the music press for more than a year, Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers are at it again.
This time, The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has retaliated to comments Kaiser Chiefs drummer Nick Hodgson made earlier this year.
Hodgson claimed The Killers would never fulfil their reported dream of becoming the "next U2" and now Flowers says he's confused by the criticism.
"Hodgson was asked who would be the next U2 and he said it wouldn't be The Killers because we wanted it too much," he said. "That doesn't make any sense though, because all the bands who have really done well have wanted it just as much as we want it. Things don't fall into your lap – it's about hunger and desire and, of course, we do have that.
"I wouldn't be too disappointed if we're not a U2-sized band, but I wanna be in The Killers, not a B-list band. I've got a strong competitive streak, it's just in my blood, and that will never go away."

New John Butler Trio album
John Butler has revealed his new LP, Grand National, is less about him and more about the bigger picture.
"It's moving more towards a universal kind of music," Butler said. "The whole thing, the way I look at the world, the way I see myself, the way I see the band, it's all becoming a bit more worldly and encompassing rather than being too specific."
The album is set to drop on Saturday March 24 and was recorded with US producer Mario Caldato Jr (Beastie Boys, Beck, Jack Johnson). The band will perform the 13 new tracks at various Easter festivals in early April.
"After the last ten or 12 years of doing what I do, my outlook is more open, so the palette opens as well, stylistically speaking, sound-wise, songwriting-wise," Butler said.

P. Diddy sued for assault
Sean Combs – the rap/clothing line mogul better known to fans as P. Diddy – has been sued by a 27-year-old US man who claims Combs assaulted him and his girlfriend at a Hollywood nightclub.
Gerard Rechnitzer filed a suit with the Los Angeles Superior Court seeking damages after an alleged argument inside the Teddy's club.
According to Rechnitzer, Combs was talking to Rechnitzer's girlfriend when he tried to interrupt. He then claimed he was yelled at "in a threatening and ominous matter" before being pushed into a parked car. Rechnitzer also claimed Combs spat on his girlfriend and other women in his group.
Comb's attorney, Benjamin Brafman, denied the claims.
"It's just another example of an opportunist seeking to fabricate a lawsuit based on a flat-out lie to try to take advantage of Mr. Combs' celebrity status," he argued. "Mr Combs did not hit anyone and Mr Rechnitzer suffered no injuries or damages whatsoever. There is no case. It is that simple."

Bobby Gillespie to rejoin The Jesus & Mary Chain?
Former Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie says he'd be keen to rejoin his original group – Scottish rockers The Jesus & Mary Chain – on their upcoming reunion tour.
Gillespie, who drummed in the band before leaving in 1985, admitted he'd love to play at California's Coachella Festival, which will play host to the Chain's first concert in eight years.
"If they asked me I would play," Gillespie said. "I haven't played with them since 1985.
"It's a long time ago – the last time I saw them play was '98 and then they split up three days later. Fantastic, I love them, great friends, heroes of mine and I am so pleased for them.
"The [Coachella organisers] haven't asked [Primal Scream] but it would be good if Primal Scream were playing and The Jesus & Mary Chain were playing on the same bill. That would be great!"

Kevin Federline launches search engine
Never out of the news for long these days, Kevin Federline's latest career move involves launching a new search engine called Search With Kevin.
The 28-year-old estranged husband of Britney Spears is the face of the new competition-based engine, which gives visitors the chance to win daily K-Fed prizes, including tickets to his private birthday bashes in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
"Every time you search the web you stand a chance of winning a prize from Kevin Federline. It's that simple," the site reads.
Federline recently emerged in public with his hair shaved extra short in an alleged show of compassion for his wife, who is undergoing rehab while the couple's two children – 17-month-old Sean and five-month-old Jayden – are cared for by her parents.
