They Might Be Giants reveal new album details
[source: NME.com] They Might Be Giants have revealed details of the follow-up to 2005's Here Come The ABCs.
Guitarist John Flansburgh said The Else was recorded on both coasts of the US in collaboration with The Dust Brothers.
"They're electronic musicians unto themselves and when you work with them you see how directly involved they are in the creation of their tracks. We really didn't know how they worked when we started. But we ended up collaborating with them on a lot of different levels.
"Sometimes we gave them beats and they created the songs around the beats. Then there were songs that were almost entire tracks that we manipulated. And then there were tracks that we gave to them to tweak and dust up in the way that they do."

The Else tracklisting:

"I'm Impressed"
"Take Out The Trash"
"Upside Down Frown"
"Climbing The Walls"
"Careful What You Pack"
"The Cap'm"
"With The Dark"
"The Shadow Government"
"Bee Of The Bird Of The Moth"
"Withered Hope"
"Contrecoup"
"Feign Amnesia"
"The Mesopotamians"

Iggy Pop defends penis song
[source: NME.com] Rock legend Iggy Pop insists writing about his penis is perfectly natural, because he wants to sing about "things of importance".
The 60-year-old Stooges frontman and punk icon has been lambasted by critics, including his former NME writer pal Nick Kent, for writing songs about his appendage on latest album The Weirdness.
Opening track "Trollin" features the lyrics: "My d**k is turning into a tree".
But Pop is adamant his penis has a place in his music.
"You write about things of importance to you," he told Rolling Stone magazine. "And it's gotta be for real. Do I think about my d**k? All the time. I've got a right to sing about it.
"If I thought, 'It's time to write a rock song, I'd better mention my d**k', then I wouldn't even be able to say 'd**k'. But it's nature-oriented."

50 Cent criticised by religious group
[source: NME.com] 50 Cent has been criticised by a Christian group who want the rapper to stop wearing crosses.
The Resistance are a nationwide Christian organisation that specifically look at the way Christianity is portrayed in the media.
"50 Cent is not Christian and if you listen to his lyrics it becomes clear that he is more of a Satanist than anything," group founder Mark Dice said.
"He is defaming the cross and committing blasphemy by wearing it while he raps about killing people for no reason… I think a diamond-studded platinum satanic pentagram would be a little more fitting."
Meanwhile, 50 Cent's manager, Chris Lighty, has labelled the request absurd.
"They should look up our charitable deeds before casting a stone," he said.

Britney Spears plays secret gig
[source: NME.com] Britney Spears performed a secret gig on Tuesday May 1.
Despite suggestions the gig at San Diego's House Of Blues club had been cancelled at the last minute, Spears did appear and opened with 1999 breakthrough single "… Baby One More Time".
Dressed in a pink top, white skirt and brown wig, Spears was flanked by a couple of backing dancers. She only spoke to the audience once, thanking everyone for coming.
The club appearance marked Britney's first live gig for three years, after a tumultuous 12 months that included a high-profile divorce, the infamous head-shaving incident and high-profile partying with celebrity friends.
In January, Spears wrote of her intentions to return "bigger and better than ever". The star is currently working on her fifth album.

New Powderfinger track attracts lawyers
With new album Dream Days At The Hotel Existence due for release on Saturday June 2, Brisbane five-piece Powderfinger have come under fire by for the lyrics of "Black Tears".
On the track, Bernard Fanning sings, "An island watch-house bed, a black man's lying dead", and former Palm Island police officer Chris Hurley believes it's about him.
Hurley is due to face trial in Townsville for the manslaughter and assault of 36-year-old Mulrunji Doomadgee, who he arrested in 2004. Doomadgee's subsequent death in custody sparked a riot.
Now Hurley is set to lodge a complaint to Queensland Attorney-General Kerry Shine about the song.
"The content and proposed timing of the song's release raises some serious concerns regarding Mr Hurley's trial," Hurley's lawyer, Glenn Cranny, said.
Powderfinger are seeking legal advice.

Travis to split?
On the eve of their latest release, The Boy With No Name, Scottish indie rockers Travis revealed they came close to splitting after finding global success with hits such as "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" and "Sing".
"When you start getting successful," singer Fran Healy said, "the business starts to seep in to any sort of cracks, which then expand and push everyone apart."
In many ways, Healy admits, the band were "saved" when drummer Neil Primrose suffered serious injuries in a car accident back in 2002.
"You start to see each other as workmates and not friends. It is bizarre but when Neil had his accident and broke his neck we were like, 'Oh no, it's Neil!' and not 'Oh God, our drummer!'. I think we suddenly became friends again."

Keane frontman "suicidal"
Keane frontman Tom Chaplain has revealed he was suicidal before he sought help last year.
Speaking to UK music magazine Q, Chaplain reckons infamous rehab centre The Priory – where the likes of Kate Moss and Pete Doherty go to clean up – is a joke.
"I was at the end of my tether in Japan," Chaplain recalled. "I was tired of my life and feeling pretty suicidal. I got off the plane and phoned my dad. I told him I'd left the band and I was falling apart. I checked myself in to The Priory."
Chaplain's decision to enter the facility was met by derision by fellow London outfit Kasabian, who branded him an attention seeker.
"That would have been a dirty and pointless publicity stunt," Chaplain countered.
"If you pitched me into a battle to see who could get more wasted with any of those guys [in Kasabian], I'd definitely come out the winner. Or loser, depending on which way you look at it. I had a good capacity for getting trashed. I was no lightweight."

US Army cancels Joan Baez gig
Famed US folk singer and anti-war activist Joan Baez says she doesn't know why a planned performance for injured soldiers in Washington DC was suddenly cancelled.
Invited by John Mellencamp last week to perform at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center with him, Baez says authorities cancelled the gig without explanation.
"I have always been an advocate for non-violence and I have stood as firmly against the Iraq war as I did the Vietnam War 40 years ago," 66-year-old Baez told the Washington Post.
"I realise now that I might have contributed to a better welcome home for those soldiers fresh from Vietnam. Maybe that's why I didn't hesitate to accept the invitation to sing for those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. In the end, four days before the concert, I was not 'approved' to take part. Strange irony."
