Madonna adopts baby boy
[source: NME.com] Madonna has adopted a one-year-old boy in Malawi, according to the child's father.
Yohane Banda told reporters the singer had adopted his son, David, a week after her publicist Liz Rosenberg denied the claims.
"I am the father of David, who has been adopted," he said. "I am very, very happy because, as you can see, there is poverty in this village and I know he will be very well looked after in America."
Following his comments, a spokeswoman for Madonna confirmed an official statement would be made in the next 48 hours, BBC News reported.
Madonna had travelled to Malawi to help fight poverty and AIDS in Africa by setting up a US$3 million initiative called Raising Malawi. The orphan centre will be based in Mphandula and aims to feed and educate 1000 children a day.
Madonna is also planning to donate all the proceeds from her next children's book, The English Roses: Too Good To Be True (due October 23), to the project.

New Order bassist puts pen to paper
[source: NME.com] New Order bassist Peter Hook is set to write a book about legendary Manchester venue The Hacienda.
Financed by New Order and Factory Records boss Tony Wilson, the club featured heavily in the 24 Hour Party People film and played host to Madonna on her first UK tour. The Hacienda closed in the mid-90s and has since turned into luxury flats.
Hook said his book is provisionally titled How Not To Run A Club.
"I realised I'd bored my friends for years with tales from The Hacienda, so now I thought I'd bore the general public with it," he said.
"But once I started to get into the writing I realised what a huge endeavour it was, and that I was going to have to work on it properly to do it justice."
The bassist is yet to find a publisher but was in good spirits when he spoke to the Manchester Evening News.
"To us it's a tale of woe, but The Hacienda did change the world of clubbing. Even though it took me to the edge and it took Factory Records to the edge. The stories are legion and legendary."

Justin Hawkins quits The Darkness
[source: NME.com] The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins has quit the band to recover from drink and drug addictions.
The singer made the decision following a stint in The Priory rehab clinic in London.
"I feel bad for the others [in the band]," he told The Sun newspaper. "It will be an upheaval. But it's time for me to move on. It would be damaging to my recovery to stay on. I'm not blaming the band for my problem; I am an addict. There are people who can be in bands and stay clean, but I'm not one of them."
Despite his decision to quit, Hawkins said the band will continue without him, with bassist Richie Edwards, who replaced former band member Frankie Poullain, taking over vocal duties.
According to Hawkins, his cocaine addiction in the last few years escalated to a point where he was spending more than £1,000 (almost AU$2500) a week on the drug.
"I feel like I've lost three years of my life. I'm only just coming to terms with what has happened because I was always off my face," he explained. "I became secretive, volatile and verbally abusive. [I was] a really unpleasant person to be around."
Hawkins admitted he considered quitting The Darkness last year before the band set off on a world tour, but carried on before entering rehab in August.
The singer said he will now concentrate on recording a solo record and writing music for films.

Utah emo rockers The Used have parted ways with drummer Branden Steineckert, according to the band's website.
"It is with much sadness that we want to tell you that Branden is no longer the drummer in The Used," Bert, Jeph and Quinn said in a joint statement. "We felt we needed to move forward without Branden as our drummer. We wish Branden well and owe a great deal of gratitude towards him for his hard work over the years. We could not have gotten this far without him. We all wish much happiness and success in Branden's future endeavours, wherever they may lead."

Christina Aguilera heads out on tour
With new album Back To Basics hitting the top of the charts, pop songstress Christina Aguilera is heading out on a European tour next month. She's also announced a US arena tour for February 2007.
Aguilera also has plans for a smaller club tour, in which Aguilera would play legendary blues and jazz joints.
"We're definitely going to mix it up, change it up, do some things that are not on the record, do some favourite classics of mine," Aguilera said when asked about the tour setlists. "We're really going to have fun and experiment with new ideas and interesting places to go to that have a throwback appeal and vibe."
Unfortunately for Australian fans, a tour Down Under isn't on the table… yet.
