Flaming Lips open UK tour with eventful show
[source: NME.com] The Flaming Lips' UK tour began in controversial fashion on Saturday November 4 at the Brighton Centre.
A clearly distressed Wayne Coyne spent much of the set appealing to the crowd for information after a number of personal possessions – including a laptop and his wife's digital camera – were stolen from the group's dressing room prior to the show.
Speaking from the stage, Coyne described the culprit captured on the venue's CCTV as "of regular build, about 5ft 11, wearing a light blue hooded athletic top with a white stripe".
He also described the culprit as looking "a bit like a whippet" and said no further action would be taken if the items were returned.
It was an eventful night that also saw the band's typically spectacular show halted for 15 minutes when a girl in the crowd suffered a suspected epileptic fit following a light-heavy rendition of "The W.A.N.D".
A visibly concerned Coyne thanked the audience for "being peaceful" while the audience member received medical treatment, before concluding the show without further incident.

Boy George infuriates former bandmates
Boy George has angered former bandmates by refusing a Culture Club reunion and then calling replacement singer, 29-year-old Sam Butcher, "dreadful".
"We've never said anything about George, because George has always been George," Culture Club drummer Jon Moss said. "This has gone too far."
The flamboyant former frontman further irked his old friends when he showed up at the recent Q Music awards to accept a songwriting gong for "Karma Chameleon", a tune written by the whole band.
"At the end of the day, Culture Club was very much ours as well as George's," Moss said. "He was the visual impact that everyone got, but there was a hell of a lot behind it. The only person George loves is George."

Moby: gay men are superior
Electronic music guru Moby believes gay men are better than their straight counterparts.
With new single "New York, New York" out in the US next week, the former techno DJ told a UK interviewer that gay crowds are less likely to get into a fight or commit date rape.
"I'm straight but I've grown up around gay people and gay clubs," Moby insisted. "They are superior to straight people. If you have a gay child you're more inclined to be a prouder parent."

ARIA winners race up the charts
The lucky musicians who took home gongs at the recent 2006 ARIA Awards have even more reason to celebrate this week.
The latest ARIA chart – which tallies record sales across the country – has seen several acts reclaim high-selling positions.
Human Nature have held onto the top spot with their Motown LP, while Eskimo Joe have seen Black Fingernails, Red Wine move from number 14 to number six.
Wolfmother's self-titled album moved up 11 places to number seven, Bernard Fanning's Tea & Sympathy re-entered the chart at number 15 and The Veronicas' LP climbed to number 28.
"These chart results are fantastic and clearly demonstrate the power of television to influence album sales," Channel Ten chief programming officer David Mott said.
"Were delighted with the ratings for this year's telecast; our partnership with ARIA is strong, and we are already looking forward to next year's show."
