Blur reunion gets closer
[Source: NME.com] Rumours of a Blur reunion and new album from the original four-piece were further fuelled yesterday (Sunday January 7) by bassist Alex James.
Speaking in the Sunday Times newspaper, James – who is currently focusing on cheese-making – said recent contact with estranged guitarist Graham Coxon led him to think "the time is right" for Coxon to rejoin.
"I've been talking to Graham and there might be some good news," he said. "It's by no means in the bag, but it looks quite promising. Maybe the time is right. We've always left the door open for him, so that's what I'm hoping for."
The remarks build on those made by James in November when he said he'd like Blur to have a "happy four-piece ending". A month later, James admitted he'd met with Coxon for the first time in a year and discussed reuniting.
Coxon left in 2002 during sessions for the Think Tank album. The other three members carried on and finished the album without him.

Hard-Fi put their DIY skills to the test
[Source: NME.com] Hard-Fi have built their own studio for the follow-up to 2005's massive-selling debut, Stars Of CCTV.
After searching fruitlessly for a space, the Staines four-piece retreated to their hometown to record the album frontman Richard Archer has described as "darker" and "more expansive".
Although they are back at the scene of the old mini-cab office where they recorded their debut, this time the band have moved next door into an empty unit.
"We didn't want to go in a posh studio because we made the first one ourselves in this little room we converted into a studio, so we wanted to do that again in somewhere a bit bigger," Archer explained. "It's still in the same industrial building, next door to a company that makes automatic gates! It's still pretty rough and ready."

Franz Ferdinand and The Cribs team up
[Source: NME.com] Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos is producing The Cribs' follow-up to 2005's The New Fellas in Vancouver.
Work on the album, which has the provisional title of Man's Needs, Woman's Needs, Whatever, began in November after The Cribs supported Franz Ferdinand in the US.
Speaking to NME.COM, bassist Gary Jarman explained: "Alex watched us every night and told us he was interested in helping us. So we went back to Wakefield to work on it and it was when he came to visit us that we were like, 'If he's willing to come to this fucking place then he's definitely doing the record'."
For his part, Kapranos said he admired the atmosphere the band generates.
"The Cribs have that raw energy and attitude punk should have, but they also have one of the greatest senses of melody among any band around."

The Killers turn down Ghostface Killah
[Source: NME.com] The Killers have turned down the opportunity to collaborate with Ghostface Killah.
The former Wu Tang Clan member has revealed he wanted to combine his vocals with their music, but the Las Vegas four-piece pulled out.
"I wanted to do a song with them. I'm Ghostface Killah and they're The Killers. We were going to do a mash-up with my vocals over their music, and it was going to be The Killers meet the Killah. But they didn't want to do it. I was disappointed."
The rapper also told Spin he would like former Arctic Monkeys bassist Andy Nicholson to play with him.
"I've gotta get him on my next record!"

Britney and K-Fed reach agreement over kids
Pop princess Britney Spears and soon-to-be-divorced husband Kevin Federline (who recently announced plans to take on the world of pro-wrestling) are in talks regarding their children's future.
The pair have two sons, 16-month Sean Preston Federline and four-month Jayden James Federline. Britney and K-Fed have – for the month of January at least – agreed on the access rules for each parent.
Spears is permitted to holiday in Miami with her children for ten days, with K-Fed allowed three weekly visits upon her return. The couple signed the custody agreement just after Christmas, although it runs out at the end of this month. The document also stipulates Spears must make her "best efforts to ensure that no third party visiting the home" interferes with her ex-hubby's time with the kids. Federline has insisted only Spears, her assistant, her nanny and other household staff be present.

Burt Bacharach's daughter commits suicide
The daughter of songwriter Burt Bacharach has committed suicide.
Forty-year-old Nikki Bacharach, whose mother was actress Angie Dickinson, killed herself on Thursday January 4 at her condo, suffocating herself with a plastic bag and helium.
Nikki was one of the 77-year-old songwriter's three children and had suffered from Asperger's Disorder (a form of autism) throughout her life. "She quietly and peacefully committed suicide to escape the ravages to her brain brought on by Asperger's," a statement from the family read.
"She loved kitties and earthquakes, glacial calving, meteor showers, science, blue skies, sunsets and Tahiti."

Busta Rhymes charged with assault
Following claims he assaulted his driver, US rapper Busta Rhymes – real name Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr – has been arraigned in a New York court with misdemeanour assault charges.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Neil Ross allowed the rapper to post AU$4,489 bail, setting his next court date for Tuesday February 20.
It's the latest in a string of legal problems for Rhymes, who last year witnessed a former bodyguard get shot in front of his studio, was accused of beating up a fan and was charged with possessing a machete.
"Busta adamantly denies all the allegations contained in the complaint," one lawyer Scott Leemon said outside the courthouse.
"We look forward to having our day in court."
