Lily Allen enraged over satirical track
[source: NME.com] Lily Allen is seething over an unknown track that sends up the current crop of London artist scenesters.
Performed by an (as-yet) unknown artist, "LDN Is A Victim" surfaced on the internet and name-checks the likes of Lily Allen, The Streets, Kate Nash and The Maccabees.
The track parodies the current London music scene and its supposed "middle class" roots.
Posting a comment on the "LDN Is A Victim" MySpace page, Lily Allen fumed: "So what if we're middle class? Just cause your mum was too lazy to get her fat ass off the sofa and make some cash. I shouldn't be able to make tunes, yeah? (Which is more than you're doing by the way)."
Continuing her post, she added sarcastically: "Thanks for the song, it really made us see the light, now we know where we belong."
"LDN Is A Victim" is currently available to download through www.myspace.com/ldnisavictim, while a limited edition 7" is due out on Monday April 23.

Blur drummer to stand for election
[source: NME.com] Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has announced he intends to stand in the UK local council elections this May as a Labour candidate.
Rowntree has confirmed his selection to stand as Labour's candidate for a forthcoming council by-election in Marylebone.
Speaking about his new career, Rowntree told The Independent: "I've been a long-standing member of the Labour party and active in local politics for a while.
"I'm a Westminster resident and in my experience of living here, it all looks lovely – there are hanging baskets everywhere – but you only need to scratch beneath the surface and see that there's a lot of deprivation and a lot of inequality around. I think someone needs to do something about it."
However, the drummer may face difficulties in getting elected, as the Marylebone ward is a traditional Conservative stronghold.

Home of June Carter and Johnny Cash burns down
The Tennessee home of late country greats Johnny Cash and wife June Carter has gone up in flames.
Recently purchased by Bee Gee Barry Gibb – who was intending on remodelling the house in order to record music in the legendary abode – the lakeside home was the primary residence for the pair between its purchase in 1968 and their deaths in 2003.
It was also featured in Cash's final video, the Grammy-wining "Hurt". Gibb was, according to local newspaper the Hendersonville Star News, planning on moving in this winter, and had previously told reporters he was "determined to preserve [the house] to honour the memory" of its previous occupants.
Local fire officials haven't determined what caused the blaze in the three-storey wooden house.

Ozzy launches solo LP
He's taken on reality TV and successfully launched an international touring festival. Now former Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne is set to release his first studio album in more than six years.
Black Rain, due out in mid-May, finds Osbourne backed by his regular band, including infamous guitarist Zakk Wylde. Tracks on the LP include "Civilize The Universe" and "Thank God For The Almighty Dollar", both of which can currently be heard on Ozzy's website (www.ozzy.com).
According to John Michael – better known as Ozzy – the theme of the LP is his unease with the state of the world.
"I just thought there's so much f**king bad news, the only way I can release it is to put it in a song," Osbourne said. Expect a world tour this winter.

Live Billy Thorpe album imminent
Following his sudden death on Wednesday February 28, the management and record company of late Aussie icon Billy Thorpe have confirmed they'll release a double CD by the rocker on Saturday April 21.
Solo – The Last Recordings captures Thorpe doing "what he loved best – playing live and sharing the stories behind the songs with his audience," manager Michael Chugg revealed.
"I'm very excited about this album as it is obviously Bill's last recording, but it's also exactly what he would have loved it to be."
The LP captures a one-off show by Thorpe at Sydney venue The Basement, held on Saturday December 16 in 2006. It features covers of rock and roll classics like "Be Bop A Lula", "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", Rock My Baby" and "Oop Poo Pa Doo", as well as a previously unreleased Thorpe original, "Girls Of Summer".
Thorpe's wife, Lynn, and children, Rusty and Lauren, said the recording does justice to the musician's memory.
"Always one to give everything he had to a performance, this particular departure from being the frontman of a band enabled him to give that extra bit of himself, a sense of true confidence in his gift. We are so lucky to have captured this amazing display live, to cherish, remember and celebrate now and forever."
