Busta Rhymes rejects plea deal
[source: NME.com] Busta Rhymes rejected a plea deal this week that would have sent him to jail for one year.
The Grammy-nominated rapper would have served a year in prison for two assault charges, been fined AU$1812 and forced to participate in an anti-drink-driving programme in exchange for pleading guilty.
Rhymes has been arrested four times in the past ten months, most recently on Thursday May 3 when he was pulled over in Manhattan for suspected drink driving. He faces two additional charges for assault and one for driving with a suspended license.
Rhymes' lawyer, Scott Leemon, has been quoted as saying the arrests were "payback" for refusing to cooperate in the investigation into the fatal 2006 shooting of Rhymes' former bodyguard, Israel Ramirez. The case has not been solved.

Kate Bush in trouble with local council
[source: NME.com] The security system in Kate Bush's cliff-top mansion in Devon has led to residents lodging formal complaints with the local council.
High security fencing, electronic entry systems, warning signs, bright spotlights and the installation of CCTV cameras around the mansion have led to the matter being put on the agenda at the next parish council meeting.
Chairman David Hampden-Smith said locals were also concerned Bush plans to divert two public footpaths that provide views of her 17-acre property.
"I'm afraid the coast path and the beach were there long before Kate Bush and I'm fairly confident they'll still be in the same place with the same unhindered access long after she's gone," an unnamed councillor said.
Bush bought the AU$6million mansion in 2004, and its picturesque setting is thought to have provided the inspiration for her 2005 album, Ariel.

Usher parts ways with manager mum
[source: NME.com] Usher and his mother, Jonetta Patton, have ended their business relationship, the singer confirmed today.
The r&b star felt it best to separate his business and personal life and told Associated Press "it means I now get to have my mother strictly as my mother, with no added pressure". Patton had managed Usher since the start of his career in 1994.
"At this time in my life, I am simply more interested in building the strength of my family. And in order to do that, I feel it's best to separate my business life from my personal life".
Usher is famous for his hits "You Make Me Wanna" and "Yeah", as well as an acting career that included a recurring role on the sitcom Moesha. He is currently preparing the follow-up to 2004's Confessions, which sold nine million copies worldwide.

George Michael says he's "ashamed" at drug arrest
British singer George Michael pleaded guilty on Tuesday to charges of driving while unfit, after police discovered drugs on the 43-year-old singer when they found him near Hyde Park, slumped in his car in February.
"I did something very stupid," Michael told the London court, before blaming tiredness and a mix of prescription medicines for his actions.
"I am perfectly aware that I did something very wrong and got into my car when I was unfit to drive. I was not in my normal physical state and I am perfectly prepared to accept the correct punishment for that and I would have accepted it a long time ago."
Michael will return to court on Wednesday May 30 for sentencing and could face up to six months in jail and a fine of AU$12,000. Michael is due to head out on a European tour next month.

Smashing Pumpkins studio robbery
With a new LP – Zeitgeist – due out on Saturday July 7, Smashing Pumpkins suffered a blow when their Chicago rehearsal studio was burgled late last week.
The thieves have since been arrested, although they didn't steal any musical instruments or equipment.
"It appears they grabbed a series of photos that were to be used for the LP's cover artwork, including images of Paris Hilton in front of an exploding bomb and a grim reaper with the US Presidential seal on his body," the band's management said.
The pics were mysteriously updated to fan website Netphoria and were quickly removed when management threatened legal action.
"What this person did amounts to theft and the band takes this very seriously, as does Netphoria," a spokesman for the website said.
"I know everyone here is hungry for more information on the new album but this is not the way to go about it. Nobody here should condone or be supportive of the actions this individual took."
