Britney Spears apologises for umbrella rage
[source: NME.com] Britney Spears has apologised for attacking a photographer with an umbrella earlier this year.
The incident occurred outside estranged husband Kevin Federline's house after the singer infamously shaved her head.
Writing to gossip website X17 in a handwritten note, Spears said: "I want to apologise for the past incident with the umbrella. I was preparing a character for a possible movie role where the husband doesn't play his part so they swap places.
"Unfortunately I didn't get the part. I'm sorry I got all carried away with my role! Britney."
Meanwhile, the release date of the singer's new album has been pushed back to 2008.

Christina Aguilera's father confirms pregnancy rumours
Fausto Aguilera, the estranged father of US pop songstress Christina Aguilera, has confirmed rumours that the "Candyman" singer is expecting her first child with husband Jordan Bratman.
While Aguilera is refusing to discuss the subject, the baby's grandfather seems to have let the cat out of the bag.
"I'm so excited," he told an inquiring journalist. "I want Christina to achieve all her goals. I wish her all the happiness in the world."
Unfortunately Fausto might not get the chance to see his grandchild as he hasn't spoken to his daughter in years. The singer has previously stated he was both physically and emotionally abusive to her mother throughout her childhood. Aguilera has documented such troubles in songs like "I'm OK" and "Oh Mother".

Pete Doherty back in court
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty is at it again, this time pleading guilty to drug charges in a London court on Tuesday July 3.
The 28-year-old singer, formerly frontman for British band The Libertines, has admitted to possessing crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine. He also received two driving notices back on Saturday May 5.
District Judge Davinder Lachhar issued an arrest warrant the day of Doherty's court appearance, due to the singer's late arrival to the courthouse. He deferred sentencing until early next month but warned Doherty it was time to clean up his act.
"If you go to this place to have detox and take advantage of it then we will see what sentence is appropriate when you next come. But if you do not, I can tell you now that you will go into custody," Lachhar said.
"It's rehab or jail," Doherty told reporters as he left. "I was going to rehab anyway, to be honest with you, but this is a little push."

Geri Halliwell celebrates Spice reunion
With the much-anticipated Spice Girls reunion officially underway, Ginger Spice – aka Geri Halliwell, mum to daughter Bluebell Madonna – has reportedly made a peace offering to her former bandmates to celebrate their upcoming shows.
It was Halliwell who kicked off the Girls' break-up, after leaving the hit group in May 1998. According to a source close to the band, Halliwell presented each Spice Girl with a AU$47,000 ring.
"It was a lovely moment," the source said. "Geri pulled out a bag and handed the other girls a beautifully wrapped package. In each was a box containing a ring. Then Geri made a speech to thank the others for forgiving her and having her back. She pulled back her sleeve and showed that she was already wearing hers. They all shed a tear. It was the moment of reconciliation."
The Spice Girls will head to Australia in January.
