[source: NME.com] Classic rock outfit The Doors and folk veteran Joan Baez have been awarded Grammys for lifetime achievement.
The awards, presented on the eve of tonight's main event, also saw The Grateful Dead and soul band Booker T & The MGs honoured.
Doors guitarist Robby Krieger said the band's late singer, Jim Morrison, would have been "very honoured" to be recognised.
"People think he was anti-establishment but in reality he wanted to be bigger than The Beatles," Krieger said.

Dr. Dre turns movie producer
[source: NME.com] Music producer Dr. Dre has signed a deal with New Line Cinema and will soon begin working on films.
The rap star plans to initially work on dark comedies, with an eventual move into horror.
According to Variety, Dre feels the move is a natural development given he has directed music videos in the past and is planning on forging a career as a director.
New Line's Toby Emmerich said Dr. Dre's track record is second to none.
"Everything Dre has worked on becomes a hit and one of the reasons for that is that he never put his name on anything that he doesn't really believe in," Emmerich said.
"His records have always been very narrative in nature and you can tell from his songs he understands how to tell a story."
Dre, a former member of NWA, is one of the rap world's most successful producers and has worked with Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Mary J Blige. Albums produced by Dre have sold more than 80 million copies worldwide.

Take That want Robbie
Having scored a hit in the UK charts with comeback single "Patience", British boy-band Take That claim their reformation won't be complete until former bandmate Robbie Williams joins them onstage.
Playing together again for the first time in ten years, the group's Mark Owen admitted they're in talks to get Williams to appear at one of their upcoming shows.
"We hoped he'd come and do one night with us [on last year's tour]," Owen said.
"Rob said he'd have done it if he wasn't touring and making a record himself [Rudebox]. The timing just never worked out."
With a run of new dates planned for April/May, the offer still stands.
"We all still think that maybe one day it'll happen," Owen confirmed. "For us, that'd be the icing of the cake."

Kylie Minogue to adopt?
Pop princess Kylie Minogue is reportedly considering adopting a child following her split from long-term boyfriend Olivier Martinez.
An unnamed friend of the pint-sized singer told UK newspaper The Daily Mail that Minogue had sought advice from Madonna on adopting from Africa.
"She has been contacting adoption agencies in Australia and in the UK as well, regardless of her not having a partner," the friend revealed.
"In the last few days she has even been talking to Madonna, asking her advice on adopting a child from abroad. They were talking about Malawi and the other African countries."
Meanwhile, the singer has hit back at reports her ex was unfaithful.
"None of the rumours about Olivier cheating are true," Kylie revealed at the launch of her perfume, Darling, in London's Knightsbridge on the weekend. "I don't believe any of it. Olivier and I still care a lot about each other and there's still a lot of love there between us. I still speak to Olivier and you never know what will happen in the future."

James Blunt says no more
A former soldier who spent time fighting in Kosovo, "You're Beautiful" singer James Blunt has spoken out about the current culture of celebrity.
"The notion of fame is such a distraction from what I do," Blunt said. "And it's unhealthy when we have things like war and global warming going on. We need to adjust the balance and stop producing magazines that publish pictures of celebrities jumping out of cars with no underwear on."
Blunt's LP, Back To Bedlam, is up for several gongs today at the 49th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
