Radiohead: new album almost complete
[source: NME.com] Radiohead have broken their silence to announce their next album is nearly finished.
The band have been working on the follow-up to 2003's Hail To The Thief for more than a year and, in a rare post this week on their Dead Air Space site, guitarist Ed O'Brien announced the record is nearly ready.
"A word from the studio," he wrote. "Yes, I know it's been a while… but we've been working on this album… we are nearly there."
No more details were forthcoming, although it's believed the album could be released in September or October.

Courtney Love hires Cobain lookalike for new band
Courtney Love has hired a new guitarist who "looks so much like Kurt [Cobain] it's weird".
The former Hole frontwoman is pulling together a new live band to help promote her new album, Nobody's Daughter, and reported the likeness in an online post. Currently in the studio with collaborator Linda Perry (who's written hits for the likes of Christina Aguilera and Pink) on the follow-up to 2004's Celebrity Skin, Love revealed she's also been searching the internet for other players.
"I spent until 6.30am on MySpace looking for a Japanese cellist," Love said. "I found one girl finally who knew one, but I think I maybe freaked her out or she didn't believe I was me. But she sent music and pics of Yuki and she's so breathtakingly beautiful! Her playing is f***ing amazing. She sent me her Carnegie Hall look. Since I'm not really into dresses right now onstage, I want other people to wear whatever they want."

Jose Gonzalez to perform one-off show
Swedish singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez is heading to Australia for a one-off show at Sydney's Factory Theatre.
Gonzalez's 2003 album, Veneer, has sold more than 700,000 copies, thanks largely to "Heartbeats", which accompanied Sony Bravia's now legendary "bouncing balls" television advertisement.
That song, a cover of fellow Swedes The Knife, showcased perfectly Gonzalez's gentle voice and knack for reinterpreting tunes (you simply have to hear his Kylie Minogue cover!).
The singer is currently adding the finishing touches to his second release, In Our Nature, which is due in stores on Saturday September 22. You can see Gonzalez at Sydney's Factory Theatre on Thursday August 16. Tickets are on sale now.

Radiohead take to the stage… as ballet
They're lauded as one of the best bands in the world and now fans of English five-piece Radiohead can experience tracks such as "Fitter Happier" in a whole new format: ballet.
Ride The Beast, a new dance production by choreographer Stephen Petronio, will debut at the Edinburgh International Festival this August. "Radiohead's music is a brilliant investigation of achingly modern taste," Petronio said.
"They sail through genre and form effortlessly and passionately and their music demands a physical response from me that bypasses reason. I simply have to work with music I love."
Petronio has previously based ballets on the likes of Rufus Wainwright, James Lavelle, Wire, Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed.

Powderfinger drummer Jon Coghill reckons the onus for stepping up to the plate is on the Brisbane five-piece.
