Marilyn Manson labels My Chemical Romance "sad"
[source: NME.com] Marilyn Manson has stuck the knife into fellow goth types My Chemical Romance.
In an interview with The London Paper, Manson revealed new song "Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery" is about Gerard Way's outfit. It features the blunt lyrics, "F**k you, f**k you".
The shock-rocker was happy to elaborate on the attack.
"I'm embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I've done.
"If they want to identify with me then here's a razor blade. Call me when you're done and we'll talk."
The swipe comes just days before the two acts are set to share a stage – albeit one day after another – at the Download Festival at Donington Park. My Chemical Romance headline on Friday, with Manson playing before Linkin Park on the Saturday.

Paul McCartney's latest album faces sales battle
[source: NME.com] Paul McCartney faces a major sales snag as hundreds of copies of his latest album have been ruled ineligible for the UK charts.
McCartney's 21st solo album, Memory Almost Full, has just been released on the new Starbucks label, Hear Music. But Starbucks' 533 UK stores are not registered with the Official Chart Company, which means albums bought in stores will not count towards the Top 40.
The album is still likely to chart highly, however, as it's also being sold through traditional retailers and download services.
Meanwhile, fans of the former Beatle have been invited to attend Starbucks stores around the world to record video messages for the star's 65th birthday later this month.

Ryan Adams box-set coming soon
[source: NME.com] Ryan Adams is planning to issue a box-set after he releases new album Easy Tiger on Monday June 25.
According to a spokesperson for US label Lost Highway, the collection may include live tracks as well as unreleased albums 48 Hours, The Suicide Handbook, Bedhead and songs from the Easy Tiger sessions. It's believed the set would not include tracks released through Ryan-Adams.com under the monikers DJ Reggie, WereWolph, The S**t and others.
"[Those web projects weren't] meant to be anything more than just a laugh," Adams explained. "It was a thing to do after shows. It was fun – a chance to experiment with rap stuff."
Meanwhile, Adams said the new album, Easy Tiger, is "like a bunch of individual poems".
"I have no reservations about trying to link anything together. I still feel unfamiliar with this record. Even though I wrote them, I still feel like I don't know enough about them yet."

Jarvis Cocker attacks TV talent shows
[source: NME.com] Former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker has criticised TV talent shows like Pop Idol and X Factor.
"It saddens me because I love pop music and these shows prove that it's become an industrialised process," Cocker said.
"They never pick people with great voices. They pick people who show off how many notes they can fit into a ten-second period.
"A great voice expresses something and gives you some idea of the personality behind the voice. There's zero personality in the voices of any of the people who sing on these shows."
Cocker admitted he would be "straight out" if he ever appeared on a TV talent show.
"The kind of pop I was brought up on is over," he told Radio Times. "The pop charts used to be where everything happened. Now the most interesting stuff is happening in the independent music sector."

Wilco sell songs to Volkswagen
Alt-country act Wilco have been forced to defend themselves after selling "The Thanks I Get" and "You Are My Face" to car manufacturer Volkswagen.
Angry fans labelled the group sell-outs on the band's website, which prompted a hasty official statement.
"We see this as another way to get the music out there," Wilco announced. "This is a subject we've discussed internally many times over the years. With the commercial radio airplay route getting more difficult for many bands (including Wilco), we see this as another way to get the music out there. As with most of the above (with the debatable exception of radio), the band gets paid for this. And we feel okay about VWs. Several of us even drive them."

The Fray frontman to inherit English Mansion?
Issac Slade – frontman for Denver, Colorado, outfit The Fray – is set to inherit an AU$18million English estate from distant relative and 60-year-old aristocrat Sir Benjamin Slade.
Having launched a well-publicised search for a relative back in 2006, the wealthy Slade says his 150-acre estate – with three lakes and a ballroom – currently has no one to look after it.
"All my relatives in England have their own large houses and had no interest in taking on another place," he claimed.
The rocker recently spent time with Slade at the property and the pair are investigating their family links further.
"We're trying to check our family trees at the moment," Sir Slade said.
