Smashing Pumpkins press on with "magnificent" new album
[source: NME.com] Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has described the group's comeback album as "magnificent".
Writing on the band's MySpace page, the drummer revealed frontman Billy Corgan, who has remained largely silent about the reunion, is currently putting his guitar parts down.
"We are moving along nicely in the studio," Chamberlin said. "BC pulled off a magnificent guitar symphony last night and it is still ringing in my ears this morning. Eight guitars resonating in one big harmonic handshake!
"Yes, things are sounding great, my friends. Today we will be working on vocals and solos. Tomorrow, who knows? We are channellers, sonic students."
The band are set to release a new album in 2007, their first since 2000's Machina/The Machines Of God.
Though Corgan and Chamberlin's participation is confirmed, it's unclear who else will be in the band.

The legendary Detroit rock act have been recording an album – their first since 1973 – with engineer Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago.
"It doesn't sound quite like Fun House, Raw Power or our first one," Pop explained. "But you put it on and right away you'd know [it's us]."
The 16-track LP, due in March, features guests Mike Watt on bass and Brendan Benson on vocals.
Pop revealed being back in the studio stirred up mixed memories.
"Some of it is exciting and some of it is scary," he laughed, "and I don't care to go over there. But at the end of the day, I know these guys. I don't know anybody else quite that way."

Bono grills Peter Costello on foreign aid
Having entertained thousands of fans across the country over the last fortnight, U2 frontman Bono turned his hand to politics yesterday.
He met Federal Treasurer Peter Costello for 30 minutes to discuss Australia's commitment to foreign aid.
"We talked of aid, the importance of aid effectiveness, the importance of rooting out corruption," Costello said after the meeting, which he described as "warm".
Bono said he was pushing for the government to increase Australia's aid to 0.7 per cent of our gross domestic product, as "a measure of how serious you are [in fighting global poverty]".
"I pointed him in the direction of programs that are very clearly effective, like the global fund to fight AIDS, TB and malaria."
