Elton John slams religious groups
[source: NME.com] Elton John has attacked religious organisations for inciting hatred towards homosexuals.
In conversation with Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears for a special gay-centric issue of The Observer Weekly, the veteran performer said religion lacked compassion and should be banned.
"I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people. Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays.
"The reality is that organised religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate. From my point of view, I would ban religion completely, even though there are some wonderful things about it."
John was, however, full of praise for artists like Antony & The Johnsons and Rufus Wainwright, who are open about their sexuality.
"Music is now the one art form [where] people [feel] comfortable coming out, especially in Britain.
"[With] Antony & the Johnsons, Scissor Sisters and Rufus Wainwright you have three major talents that have come out and said, 'We're gay and we don't have a problem with it and nor should anybody else', which is fabulous. All three of those acts have made fabulous music, and they are all different from each other."

Kanye West apologises to new rave godfathers
[source: NME.com] Kanye West has apologised to new rave godfathers Justice vs Simian for storming the stage when they won Best Video at the European MTV Music Awards earlier this month.
The rapper was upset his video for "Touch The Sky" had been pipped by "We Are Your Friends".
"F**k this! If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you, but hell, man," he shouted from the stage in a sensational outburst
West has now issued an apology and claims he was drunk at the time.
"It was just out of raw emotion," he told MTV. "I had a couple of drinks but I was more drunk with adrenaline. I was drinking at the awards show because I feel so at home at awards shows.
"On one hand, I felt like I should have won. But if anybody watches the show, I was laughing. People don't understand my dry sense of humour. I went up there and said, 'Hell nah, I should have won'."
Despite the apology, West still feels he should have won.
"'Touch The Sky' was definitely better than that. [Their video] was good [but] it didn't cost a lot of money. I know it's not about the money, but when you got drinks in you, that's the first thing you're gonna say."

Justin Timberlake teams with Duran Duran
Despite the recent exit of guitarist Andy Taylor, 80s English pop heroes Duran Duran are on the up. Frontman Simon LeBon revealed their forthcoming LP will feature collaborations with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.
"We've done three tracks with Timbaland [and] we've collaborated in a writing and production manner on one of those tracks with Justin Timberlake," LeBon said. "We've got a lot of really hot producers who are interested in working with us at the moment. We are in a very good space."
Timbaland's recent collaboration with pop songstress Nelly Furtado, "Promiscuous", topped the charts in the US and UK, while Timberlake took out Best Pop and Best Male Artist at the MTV Europe awards two weeks ago.
When asked about the departure of their guitarist, Duran Duran bassist Josh Taylor (no relation to Andy) revealed the band now felt empowered and free.
"There were many strong differences of feeling within the band for some time," he said.

Courtney Love's father fights back
Former Hole frontwoman Courtney Love is used to being criticised, but this time the harsh words are from her father, Hank Harrison.
"Courtney is attempting to sully my reputation to nullify my credibility as a journalist and author," Harrison said.
His outburst comes in response to a recent joke by Love, who claimed Harrison fed her LSD as a child and was responsible for the bad acid that killed punters at infamous 60s music gig Altamont.
Harrison says his daughter is trying to sabotage his forthcoming book, Love Kills: The Assassination Of Kurt Cobain.
"She has seen and read my book and is petrified that it might come out by some major publisher, especially in the UK and territories where she holds sway," he claims.
He did, however, also have some nice words about his daughter.
"She's smarter than you. She's smarter than me, too. Hard to believe, I know, but I tested her when she was five and again when she was 16."
