Janet Jackson sued over choking incident
[source: NME.com] Janet Jackson is being sued for AU$145 million for an alleged choking incident.
Leonard Salati alleges two of Jackson's bodyguards grabbed him and choked him when he attempted to pass the singer a note at Club Marquee in February 2004.
Lawyers for the singer were hoping to overturn the case, but Justice Rolando Acosta decided against it. He said that despite saying she only had one bodyguard with her and boyfriend producer Jermaine Dupri, representatives for Club Marquee claim she had three.
The judge said: "Not withstanding counsel's valiant effort to shield Ms Jackson, [the law grants] no exemptions based on celebrity status."

Warrants issued for arrest of DMX
[source: NME.com] Warrants have been issued for the arrest of rapper DMX after he failed to show for a number of court appearances relating to traffic offences.
DMX (real name: Earl Simmons) was pulled over for speeding, driving dangerously, not wearing a seatbelt and driving with a suspended license.
He was due in court in White Plains, New York, on Tuesday 10 April but failed to appear, having apparently missed a flight. The judge then gave the rapper until 2pm to show up, but he did not. He was also due to appear in a court in Yonkers for a separate driving offence.
His lawyer, Murray Richman, admitted he did not know of the rapper's whereabouts.
It's not the first time DMX has missed court dates; if he's picked up now he could be arrested and jailed.

Snoop Dogg dodges prison sentence
[source: NME.com] Snoop Dogg pleaded no contest to felony firearm and drugs charges in a California court on Wednesday April 11.
Snoop (real name: Calvin Broadus) was sentenced to five years' probation and 800 hours' community service, his plea successfully helping him to dodge a prison sentence.
Broadus was arrested in Los Angeles in October following the discovery of marijuana and a gun in his car, and a second gun at his house.
And despite starting a football league for underprivileged youths, the judge ordered only half of his community service hours could involve the league.
Lawyer for the defendant Donald Etra told the judge Broadus is prescribed marijuana for migraines. The judge said the rapper must have a medical permit to use the drug.
Additionally, Snoop's security and staff must not contain any gang members.
Any violation of the probation terms will see Broadus go to prison for three years.

Geri Halliwell: children's author?
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is set to put pen to paper as a children's author.
A mother to daughter Bluebell Madonna, Halliwell announced she's landed a six-book publishing deal with Macmillan to write a series of stories about the adventures of Ugenia Lavender.
Ugenia is a nine-year-old schoolgirl who, the singer claimed, solves mysteries along the lines of "Alice In Wonderland and Raiders Of The Lost Ark".
"She's a very well-rounded human being," Halliwell said. "She's flawed, she's demanding, she can be a bit obnoxious, but she cares about the world she lives in."
The books will be released, one a month, between May and October 2008, and Halliwell also says she'll return to the studio to record the theme song to the series.
As for the much-touted Spice Girl reunion?
"We'll see," she said. "At the moment this [writing] is my absolute passion."

New Nick Drake material unearthed
Cult English singer-songwriter Nick Drake may have died young – from an overdose of anti-depressants back in 1974, after just three albums – but his influence has continued across the decades.
Now a new collection of tracks, Family Tree, is being released and features lo-fi, reel-to-reel recordings made by Drake just before his debut, Five Leaves Left.
Due out on Tuesday June 19, the collection contains previously unreleased tracks "They're Leaving Me Behind", "Blossom" and "Come Into The Garden", plus covers by artists such as Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk and Jackson C. Frank.
As an added bonus, the CD also contains two songs by Drake's mother, Molly, plus a family performance featuring the young singer on clarinet.

New reality TV show for the Jacksons
Jermaine Jackson – brother to Thriller superstar Michael – is planning on launching a new reality TV show in the US.
The former leader of The Jackson 5 is putting the finishing touches on an American Idol-style talent contest called Pop Dynasty, which will feature his sister Latoya and brother Tito as judges.
Rather than individuals, the show will pit familial singing and dancing groups against each other over eight weeks of competition. It might even spawn the next Hanson!
There's a few other high-profile guests coming on board too, such as Ray actor Jamie Foxx. Neither Janet nor Michael Jackson will take part.

Gwen Stefani loves motherhood
With an Australian tour in the works for late July, No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani has revealed how motherhood has transformed her.
The 37-year-old platinum-haired singer, who gave birth to son Kingston in May last year, told how her main focus now is on building a family.
"I've gotten a little more feminine over the last few years," Stefani admitted this week to an Aussie journo.
"As the years go by, you get more comfortable with looking more like a woman. Your metabolism is like, whoosh! You're sleep deprived, but you have this crazy amount of energy because of all those hormones. I'm scared what'll happen when it all stops, what it'll feel like going back to the regular me. Now I'm in a repeater zone. I just want to make babies and make records."
