Kanye West says he should open MTV Awards instead of Spears
[source: NME.com] While performing at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on Saturday 8 September, Kanye West claimed he should open tonight's MTV Video Music Awards instead of scheduled headliner Britney Spears.
While singing hit single "Can't Tell Me Nothing" for a star-studded crowd, West changed the lyrics to the end of the song.
"I can't believe she would perform, she hasn't had a hit record in years," he free-styled. "I gotta get my money right, or maybe I gotta get my skin white."
Afterwards, West joked: "That's one angry black man."

Justin Timberlake wins Emmy
[source: NME.com] Justin Timberlake has won an Emmy for his song "D**k In A Box".
The song won Best Original Music And Lyrics for the programme Saturday Night Live after Timberlake teamed with comic Adam Samberg to write the song, which spoofed early 90s r&b acts like Color Me Badd.
Samberg told the audience: "Justin, if you're out there, congrats to you kid."
The video beat two songs from a musical version of medical comedy Scrubs.
"I think it's safe to say that when we first set out to make this song, we were all thinking, 'Emmy'!" Samberg said.
"The other thing we were thinking was, 'There's this young up-and-comer, Justin Timberlake, who is clearly very talented and could really use a break'."
Although Timberlake was not present at the ceremony, Samberg said he would be willing to perform the song with the singer at the main Primetime Emmys ceremony, to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday 16 September.

Morrissey musical?
It was good enough for The Beatles, The Who and Queen: now moody British singer-songwriter Morrissey will be immortalised in a new musical theatre production.
According to Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant – two New Yorkers who starred in the flick Reno 911 and wrote the movies Night At The Museum and Balls Of Fury – the former Smiths frontman would be the perfect subject for a stage production.
"I have an outline in my head, like a Mamma Mia-type musical but with the music of Morrissey called I've Changed My Plea To Guilty," Lennon told the New York Metro.
"It's for a very diehard set of fans."
It's unclear how the 48-year-old singer feels about the plans.

No Sugababes split
Contrary to reports in the UK media, British trio Sugababes are adamant Amelle Berrabah – who joined the group back in 2005 – isn't going anywhere.
According to Keisha Buchanan, "things couldn't be better in the band at the moment. Amelle, Heidi and I are a rock-solid team".
So strong were the rumours, the girls' label, Island Records, was forced to issue an official statement denying any split.
Instead, the trio are busy rehearsing for their new video, "About You Now", which is set for release on Monday 24 September.
The Babes also have a brand new LP, Change, due out in early October.
"I'm 110 per cent committed to Sugababes," Berrabah said. "It's a dream come true. I can't wait to perform the new album live."

Luciano Pavarotti farewelled
Late opera legend Luciano Pavarotti was farewelled by more than 900 mourners in the Northern Italian city of Modena on the weekend, with a who's who of international guests saying their goodbyes at the tenor's funeral. Thousands more waited outside.
Tributes to the singer were led by fellow opera star Plácido Domingo, who toured with Pavarotti as part of the acclaimed Three Tenors. Domingo implored fans to remember the "God-given glory of his voice".
According to Dame Joan Sutherland, his voice was "incredible to stand next to and sing along to".
Meanwhile, U2 frontman Bono – who wrote "Miss Sarajevo" to perform with the Italian – believes Pavarotti "lived the songs".
"Even when the voice was dimmed in power, his interpretative skills left him a giant among a few tall men."
Pope Benedict XVI called Pavarotti "a great artist who, through his extraordinary talent for interpretation, honoured the divine gift of music".

Ronson denies Winehouse feud
UK producer Mark Ronson has denied reports of a feud with troubled singer Amy Winehouse.
Winehouse apparently failed to show up for the video of their hit single, "Valerie" (taken from Ronson's debut LP, Version), leaving 32-year-old Ronson fuming.
"I hate that I even have to address this 'cause it's such a crock of s***e, but I must clear this up," Ronson countered in his blog.
"Some daily paper published a completely fictionalised story about me being 'furious' with Amy for not turning up to the video shoot for our song and swearing never to work with her again. It's all bulls**t, all of it."
