Snoop Dogg arrested for suspected drug use
[source: NME.com] Snoop Dogg has been arrested in Sweden for suspected drug use.
The rapper, who was due to play the Oslo Spektrum with Sean Combs on Monday March 12, was detained at 1.25am yesterday morning before being released nearly four hours later.
“He was arrested for use of narcotics,” Ostermalm Police Duty Sergeant Mats Brannlund said. “It’s illegal in Sweden to use them, even to have it in your system.
“You can see that a person indicates that he has used narcotics in looking at his eyes or his movements. [Police] suspected that he had taken drugs.”
Police took body samples from the 35-year-old rapper, which were later sent to a laboratory for tests. If the tests confirm drug use, Snoop is likely to be fined up to AU$284.
It caps an extraordinary year for Snoop Dogg, who recently entered a not guilty plea to charges of being in possession of a deadly weapon. If found guilty, he could be sent to prison for a maximum of three years.
Meanwhile, the rapper could still face further weapons and drugs possession charges from two separate arrests last year.

Ben Stiller stars in new Travis video
[source: NME.com] Travis have just returned from Los Angeles where they've been filming a video with Ben Stiller for new single "Closer".
Set in a supermarket, with each band member playing a store employee, singer Fran Healy – clad in a bear suit as the store’s mascot – breaks into song as shoppers and their trolleys engage in a synchronised dance routine.
Drummer Neil Primrose dances across the aisles with a customer until the store’s manager – played by long-standing Travis fan Stiller – breaks up the fun.
The single is available for download from Monday April 9, with a full release following on Monday April 23. The group’s new album, The Boy With No Name, is due to hit shelves on Monday May 7.

Razorlight in car crash
[source: NME.com] Razorlight members Carl Dalemo and Bjorn Argen were involved in a minor car crash before the band’s gig in Los Angeles on Friday March 9.
“Me and Bjorn have been driving around in a white Mustang," Dalemo revealed.
"We drove around San Francisco Bay and then all the way to LA. I crashed it today into this old Korean man. It was my fault.
“I was driving and looked away briefly and just went into the back of him. Thankfully he was really good about it and said he wouldn’t be suing me.”
Meanwhile, drummer Andy Burrrows told The Daily Record that breaking into the US has proved tough.
“We’re doing our own thing now. The response has been amazing from the crowds but we just haven’t had a radio hit or anything.
“Hopefully we’ll come back in a few months and play bigger venues. It’s a hard country to crack but we’re confident we’ll get there one day. We just have to keep trying.”

Busta Rhymes barred from his own film shoot
[source: NME.com] Busta Rhymes has been banned from participating in location scenes on a movie in which he is starring, according to AOL Music.
The New York Police Department ordered Rhymes not to take part in the location scenes for Order Of Redemption, currently being filmed on location in New York City.
Last year, the rapper was involved in an incident during which his bodyguard, Israel Ramirez, was shot dead on location of a video shoot in Brooklyn. Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Smith, has since refused to co-operate with police in the investigation into the murder. So far no arrests have been made.
The NYPD has cited public safety concerns as the reason for refusing to allow Rhymes to shoot on location.

Michael Jackson visits the troops
Currently in Japan on a promotional visit – where he’s appearing at a series of parties to celebrate 25 years since the release of monster hit Thriller – reclusive pop star Michael Jackson has made a surprise visit to a US army base in Tokyo.
Jackson headed to Camp Zama on Monday to meet soldiers currently serving in the region and was presented with a framed certificate for his support by Garrison Commander Colonel Robert M. Waltemeyer. Jackson then awarded the soldier a special medal.
“[You are] some of the most special people in the world,” Jackson told the assembled troops. “It is because of you in here today, and others who so valiantly have given their lives to protect us, that we enjoy our freedom.”

Robbie Williams to team with 50 Cent
Fresh out of rehab, British singer Robbie Williams is reportedly in discussions with US hip-hop star 50 Cent about a musical collaboration.
The 33-year-old star, who recently checked out of an Arizona rehab facility where he was being treated for an addiction to painkillers, said he’s not sure what sort of music the pair might make together, although he's sure it will be good.
“I think me and 50 Cent might do something,” Williams admitted yesterday. “He called. Well, his people called. He’s someone I wouldn’t mind doing something with. He’s a bit like [Mike] Tyson – softly spoken, but could f##k you up. And I want friends like that. He’s like a teddy bear… with a cat. I can’t imagine what we’ll do though.”

Loretta Lynn goes back to college
Country singer Loretta Lynn will head to university for the first time this weekend, with news she’s set to receive an honorary doctorate from Boston’s Berklee College Of Music.
On Saturday March 17, the 72-year-old singer (who shot to fame thanks to feminist-leaning tunes such as “Rated X” and “The Pill”) will be awarded the doctorate by Berklee President Roger H. Brown.
“You put out a song that isn’t life, nobody is going to care for it," Lynn said this week. " If nobody is living that life, how are you going to sell a record if it’s just ‘Ring Around the Rosie’?
“You know, you’ve got to put your whole heart into a song, and that’s what I did with every song that I wrote.”
Other musicians honoured by Berklee in the past include Duke Ellington, Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Sting and Bonnie Raitt.

New dates for Splendour In The Grass
Splendour in The Grass organisers have announced this year’s event will take place over the first weekend of August rather than during its traditional late July timeslot.
Fans of the two-day Byron Bay festival should now pencil Saturday August 4 and Sunday August 5 into their diaries.
There's no news on the festival's line-up yet, but international acts already in the country include UK indie outfit Bloc Party, while rumours suggest Arcade Fire, Air, Primal Scream and Bright Eyes could all appear.

Due out on Tuesday June 26, the first single from the LP to hit radio is “Like This”, which features US rapper Eve. Elsewhere, Snoop Dogg appears on “Ghetto”.
