[source: NME.com] Prince has reportedly snubbed Michael Jackson's offer to join him on tour.
The gloved one is said to have asked the purple one to open for him at a series of concerts designed to help revitalise his career. But Prince declined the offer, claiming he already had plans for a tour of his own later in the year.
The alleged rejection comes on the heels of a snub from veteran producer Quincy Jones, who turned down the chance to work with Jackson on his forthcoming album.
Meanwhile, Jacko has just bought Famous Music LLC from Viacom. It means he now owns tracks like Eminem's "Without Me" and "The Real Slim Shady", as well as rights to songs by Shakira, Beck and Bjork.
"This is a milestone event for Sony/ATV Music Publishing," Jackson said in a statement. "The diverse collection of songs in this catalogue range from timeless classics to contemporary hits, and I am pleased to add the acquisition of Famous Music to Sony/ATV."

Oasis founder turns back on his own label
[source: NME.com] Alan McGee, the man who first discovered Oasis, has decided to turn his back on traditional record labels, including his own Poptones imprint.
Instead, the Creation Records founder says he will concentrate on acting as an adviser for bands.
McGee, who also discovered The Jesus And Mary Chain and The Libertines, currently manages Dirty Pretty Things and The Charlatans. He claimed it is no longer feasible for record labels to profit from new bands.
Speaking to BBC6 Music, he added: "The best advice I could give to any young band is to do it yourself. Of course, the major record companies will come in and sign two or three new bands a year and probably always will, but who'll own the major record companies? Probably a hedge fund."

The Who credit Rolling Stones as their inspiration
[source: NME.com] Pete Townshend of The Who has credited The Rolling Stones as the inspiration behind the band's classic 1966 single, "Substitute".
Townshend has posted excerpts from his upcoming autobiography, Who He?, on his own blog (petetownshend-whohe.blogspot.com) and revealed how he became "inspired" after Stones manager Andrew Oldham played him a test pressing of "19th Nervous Breakdown".
"My song began as a homage to Smokey Robinson, inspired by The Rolling Stones," he revealed.
He then said a collaboration with Mick Jagger was not out of the question.
"You know, he's asked me to work on several records with him and I've very much enjoyed doing it. But he's never suggested that we write together.
"His ex-wife, Jerry Hall, used to say all the time, 'You and Pete should write together'. And we would kind of go, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah'. It may happen and it may not."

Kaiser Chiefs deny mini-LP rumours
With an Australian tour in two months, Leeds rockers Kaiser Chiefs have played down speculation surrounding a new mini-album.
Frontman Ricky Wilson hinted last month that the group were working on a disc of leftover material from the Yours Truly, Angry Mob sessions, but has now said the songs are so bad they'll never see the light of day.
"One night we were left in the studio with just our sound engineer," Wilson revealed. "We had this idea to record an album for 45 minutes off the top of our heads. We just made it up as we went along. It was a laugh to start with and then Simon [the Kaiser's bassist] went and said we wanted to release it. We did in a way… but just as a joke."

Marilyn Manson snubs Eminem over "Stan"
He recently gained Andrew Lloyd Webber's admiration but it seems Eminem's controversial lyrics are too much for shock-rocker Marilyn Manson.
According to an interview in US music mag Spin, Manson turned down a request from Eminem to guest on hit song "Stan", which depicts the murder of the rapper's then-wife, Kim.
"He asked me to sing on his first record, and I would have, except that the song he asked me to sing was… too misogynistic," Manson said.
"It was the one about killing his girlfriend and putting her in a trunk. It was on a record I could listen to, but it was too over-the-top for me to associate with."

Kylie keeps low profile at birthday bash
Aussie pop icon Kylie Minogue celebrated her 39th birthday in style this week, opting for a low-key celebration at home in London with friends and family, including sister Dannii.
Some of the singer's more ardent fans were, however, not going to let the date slip by unnoticed, and left gifts, flowers and cards upon Minogue's doorstep.
"We thought she'd feel a bit down because it was her first birthday since splitting up with Olivier Martinez," one fan told reporters.
Minogue is currently working with DJ/producer Calvin Harris on the follow-up to 2003 LP Body Language.

The Enemy festival scare: "It must have been spiked"
Guitarist for UK trio The Enemy claims he was a victim of drink-spiking at the recent Radio 1 Big Weekend gig in London.
"It was scary. I'd only been drinking booze; it must have been spiked," Hopkins said. "I can't remember any of it but the lads said I was trying to headbutt cars. Apparently I jumped out of the van and headbutted the concrete. Then I was being sick in a corner and they had to call an ambulance. I think I scared them."
The Enemy are currently touring songs from their forthcoming LP – rumoured to be called We'll Live And Die In These Towns --– across the UK, with a trip to Japan planned for August.
