The Spice Girls confirm reunion tour
[source: NME.com] The Spice Girls have confirmed plans to reform for a world tour.
The all-girl five-piece made the announcement at the 02 Arena in London on Wednesday afternoon.
Introduced by actor Richard E Grant, the group said they will kick off their tour in Los Angeles in December before heading to the rest of the world.
The band denied any plans to play the Princess Diana memorial concert this weekend due to Emma Bunton's pregnancy.
Geri Halliwell described the band getting back together like "coming back to a family".
"I think it was about celebrating the past, enjoying each other and it's about our fans," Halliwell said. "It was the right time."
The band also said they were in talks to record new material and confirmed plans to make a documentary that will show their "gritty side".

The Spice Girls will play the following cities, with venues to be confirmed:

Los Angeles (Friday December 7)
Las Vegas (Saturday December 8)
New York (Tuesday December 11)
London (Saturday December 15)

Jet to rock the AFL Grand Final
Melbourne rockers Jet have confirmed they'll perform at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as part of September's AFL Grand Final entertainment.
"We're thrilled to be playing at one of the greatest sporting events in the world," Jet frontman Nic Cester said.
"Growing up in Melbourne and following the footy all of our lives and getting to play at the Grand Final is every kid's dream. Of course, we imagined we'd be kicking the winning goal on the final siren, but playing a couple of our tunes to 100,000 people before the game is the musical equivalent."
With more than four million albums sold so far, brothers Nic and Chris Cester, Cameron Muncey and Mark Wilson are currently on a world tour promoting their latest release, Shine On.
"Somehow Jet have earned a reputation for enjoying a night out," Cester jokes, "so we're happy to add to that reputation and be part of the inaugural Centre Square post-match entertainment the AFL is putting on. We'll be asking for dim sims and footy franks on our rider."

Usher ready for fatherhood
US r&b star Usher has revealed he's got more on his plate in 2007 than just an upcoming album.
The "U-Turn" singer has announced he's set to become a first-time dad, with girlfriend Temeka Foster expecting in spring.
"We are extremely excited at this point in our lives, planning our wedding and the joy that comes with expecting our first child together," the couple said in a joint statement.
"We hope people will be happy for us and respect our privacy during this happy period in our lives."
As well as launching a new fragrance in September, Usher is currently working on the follow-up to his hit 2005 LP, Confessions, which has sold more than eight million copies worldwide.

Ween team with Crazy Frog?
They're renowned for wacky tunes and out-there concerts - not to mention a plethora of genre-skipping albums - and now Pennsylvania duo Ween are set to head into dancefloor territory.
Dean (Mickey Melchiondo) and Gene Ween (aka Aaron Freeman) have a new, self-released EP due next month, which sees the pair team with Reinhard "DJ Voodoo" Raith - one of the songwriters/producers behind the Crazy Frog ringtone craze - for one of its tracks.
"We were doing the demos for it and Aaron thought it would be good to get a European dance guy to re-do that song," Melchiondo told Billboard this week.
"We don't even play any instruments on the EP version."
The pair are currently working on their album, which is due out this September. Fans can expect to hear the "LSD version" of the song on the longplayer.

50 Cent heads back to the big screen
US rapper 50 Cent will return to the big screen with a coveted role in a thriller alongside Hollywood icons Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
The pair (who were last seen in the Michael Mann crime thriller Heat) are set to star in Righteous Kill, a tale of drug dealers and cops directed by Jon Avnet (Risky Business, Brave New World).
Fiddy is reportedly taking on the role of a dealer who helps the police hunt for a killer. It's the second time the rapper has hit the big screen, after starring in Curtis Hanson's biopic, Get Rich Or Die Tryin'.

Cyndi Lauper disses Britney
Eighties icon Cyndi Lauper - who shot to fame thanks to her orange hair, wild dress sense and tracks like "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" - has reportedly reneged on her offer to let US pop songstress Britney Spears appear onstage with her.
Spears was, according to New York Post gossip column Page Six, set to make a surprise guest appearance at Lauper's Los Angeles show on her current True Colors tour.
But when the 54-year-old performer learned her young co-star was planning to dance and lip-synch, the deal was off.
"To be onstage with Cyndi, you have to actually perform. It's not happening now," a source told the paper.

John Butler adds extra shows

The Beatles reunite for TV
Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr found themselves seated alongside the ex-wives of George Harrison (Olivia Harrison) and John Lennon (Yoko Ono) following a plaque-unveiling ceremony in Las Vegas this week.
They foursome came together to honour their deceased bandmates and mark the first anniversary of the Fab Four-inspired "L.O.V.E" spectacular, which is staged by Cirque du Soleil at Vegas' Mirage hotel.
Talking about Harrison's death from cancer in 2001, McCartney held Starr's hand.
"I got to see him a short time before he died... We sat, stroking hands, like this, and this was a guy I'd known since he was a little kid and you don't stroke hands with guys like that. It was just beautiful."

Depeche Mode singer to release new solo album
[source: NME.com] Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan is set to release his second solo album.
Hourglass, the follow-up to 2003's Paper Monsters, is due out in October and was recorded in New York. It's due to be mixed by producer Tony Hoffer (Becks, The Kooks) in July.
Speaking about the album, Gahan said: "We were very aware of the importance of keeping urgency in the sound and a feeling of spontaneity. We didn't want to get bogged down in trying to make everything sound perfect. You want to keep the rough edges."
Tracks expected to feature include "Saw Something", "Use You", "Endless", "21 Days", "A Little Lie", "Deeper And Deeper", "Love Will Leave", "Down", "Miracles", "Tomorrow" and "Kingdom".

Lily Allen starts work on second album
[source: NME.com] She's been on the road since debut album Alright, Still was released last year, but Lily Allen has now started working on her next record.
"I actually have an apartment in New York and I've been there trying to record," she revealed.
"I've been working with [production duo] Future Cut again and we've come up with some ideas. It's just not really there yet."
Allen said she's determined not to rush the process.
"I think that's a mistake a lot of people make these days when they have a successful first album and the record company pushes them into rushing a second one. I'm not interested in doing that."
Speaking about the new material, she told MTV News: "The songs I've written so far are good; they just don't shout anything different to me than what the last album was like. I'd like to do something different."
Allen is set to appear at the Concert For Diana on Sunday July 1 at the new Wembley Stadium in London.

Pearl Jam head to court over dead fans
Seven years ago, nine Pearl Jam fans - including one Australian - were crushed to death at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, while another 23 fans suffered serious injuries.
Unfortunately for the families of the deceased victims, the battle for compensation is still in litigation. Now the US rock group are set to testify in a Denmark court to help the parents in their bid for "increased damages".
In town on a current tour, frontman Eddie Vedder and guitarist Stone Gossard requested a meeting with lawyers for the families, who've been attempting to sue the festival. Despite two investigations, none of the festival organisers were charged following the tragedy.
It was discovered that sound wasn't travelling to the back of the large crowd, who surged forward, crushing those in front.

Ryan Adams heads Down Under
US singer-songwriter Ryan Adams - who shot to fame with a solo career following the break-up of cult alt-country outfit Whiskeytown - is heading to Australia to support new release Easy, Tiger.
Bringing his band The Cardinals along for the ride, Easy, Tiger is Adams' ninth LP. The Sydney Morning Herald think it "may yet rank as one of his best" and said it " distils his many influences and sources to a key triumvirate: sad country; even sadder pop; and whiskey-soaked mid-tempo rock".
Tickets for Adams' shows go on sale on Friday July 6.

Tour dates:

Monday August 20 - Palais Theatre, Melbourne
Wednesday August 22 - Her Majesty's Theatre, Adelaide

My Chemical Romance reckon Marilyn Manson's "two-faced"
Emo outfit My Chemical Romance and shock rocker Marilyn Manson are locked in a battle of words following Manson's television attack on the New Jersey outfit.
Manson labelled MCR a "sad, pitiful and shallow" imitation of himself in a recent TV interview and now MCR frontman Gerard Way has hit back, calling him "two-faced".
According to MCR guitarist Frank Iero, Manson has always been nice to their faces.
"The funny thing is that he seems to have lashed out at us about the make-up. That's weird to me, because I had heard of Alice Cooper before I heard of Marilyn Manson," Iero said.
"I don't know how he could be mad at us. We never came out and said we were going to call ourselves by a girl's name and then a serial killer's name. I'm really sorry if he feels we ripped him off."

Bono gives Blair thumbs up
U2 singer Bono has praised Tony Blair for his "straight-up" manner.
Blair left office on Wednesday to make way for new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
"What I admire the most about Tony Blair is that despite all accusations of a slick PR machine, spin doctoring and the like, he has almost always exposed himself to bad press and outcry for doing the things he believed in," Bono told UK newspaper The Sun.
He also compared Blair's tenure as PM to the minister's earlier days, when he played guitar in Ugly Rumours.
"[Guitarists] are often very clever," Bono joked about the axeman-turned-pollie. "They're very studious - they spend hours in the bedroom practising."

Amy Winehouse is a cutter
UK pop songstress Amy Winehouse attracted more controversy when the latest issue of US music mag Spin hit the streets recently.
In an interview with the magazine, Winehouse reportedly showed a reporter scars from where she'd carved her husband's name (Blake Fielder-Civil) into her stomach with a shard of glass.
"I'm not in this to be a f**king role model," Winehouse told the mag.
"I don't care. I don't care about any of this and I don't have much of an opinion of myself. I don't think people care about me. I made an album I'm very proud of and that's about it. I write songs because I'm f**ked in the head and need to get something good out of something bad. I thought, 'I'm going to die if I don't write down the way I feel. I'm going to do myself in'. It's nothing spectacular."

Franz Ferdinand open up about new LP
Scottish art rockers Franz Ferdinand have opened up about their forthcoming LP.
Singer Alex Kapranos has told fans they'll have to wait until early 2008 to pick up the new disc, which has been in the works since January.
"The new songs have a much heavier synth/dance kind of element to them," Kapranos told MTV America. "Nick [McCarthy, keyboardist and guitarist] bought himself a new velvet cape and we needed an excuse for him to wear it, so we had to get him a big bank of synthesisers to play."
Apparently, half the necessary songs are in the can and Kapranos reckons his influences this time include people's obsessions and Truman Capote's literary masterpiece, In Cold Blood.
Franz Ferdinand's last LP was 2005's You Could Have It So Much Better.

Slim Dusty Way
The Slim Dusty Way Management Committee will meet next week to finalise plans to honour the late country singer with a themed tourist drive.
The road is expected to run from Nulla Nulla and Kempsey (Slim's birthplace) in New South Wales to Australia's home of country music, Tamworth.
It's the same route travelled by the singer and his wife back in 1954, when Dusty embarked on his first tour, playing in a small hall in Walcha.
"Tourists don't follow geographical boundaries; they chase experiences," Kathryn Yarnold, General Manger of the Slim Dusty Foundation said.
The iconic singer passed away on September 19, 2003.

Amy Winehouse to record James Bond theme?
UK soul powerhouse Amy Winehouse is, according to the musical director of the James Bond film franchise, the top pick for recording the theme song to the next 007 film.
If Winehouse does jump aboard the Bond train, she'll follow in the esteemed footsteps of Dame Shirley Bassey, Madonna, Nancy Sinatra, Chris Cornell and Gladys Knight.
Composer David Arnold said Winehouse has the perfect voice for the coveted honour.
"Amy Winehouse did the best record of last year. I haven't asked her yet but I think she'd be good, although Bond songs can be a bit of a war zone," Arnold admitted.
"The next film will be in 2008 and we're almost finished with the script. The books are all done now so this one is going to be an extension of what happens to Bond, continuing the story from Casino Royale. We haven't got a title yet but anything without 'death', 'dying', 'tomorrow' or 'dies' would be fine by me!"

Spice Girls reunion details leaked
Rumours of an imminent Spice Girls reunion have been stoked once again with the leaking of a memo from the group's long-time manager, Simon Fuller.
The memo reportedly contains a number of instructions, including "do not talk about money", "talk about memories of the Spice Girls with affection" and "do not get into spats between yourselves over plans and decisions".
According to the memo, which was printed by The Sun newspaper, Fuller asks the five women to "respect each other's personal lives and commitments and respect each other's views. He then issues one final plea: "Do not become pregnant - please!"

Christina Aguilera moves into Ozzy's home
"Candyman" singer Christina Aguilera, who's currently fighting off rumours she's pregnant, has reportedly purchased the Beverly Hills home of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne (the house that featured in hit reality TV series The Osbournes).
The rock and roll royals now reside in the UK, with Ozzy recently admitting he's no longer keen on the Doherty Drive residence.
"I don't want to stay in that house anymore," Ozzy confessed in an interview.
"The house holds bad memories for me because it reminds me of the terrible time Sharon got cancer and of times when me and the kids were doped out of our minds."
Aguilera is based in New York City, but is apparently planning on using the address as her second home in Los Angeles.

Kelly Clarkson, the first winner of hit reality TV series American Idol, has revealed she suffered from bulimia in high school after missing out on a role in a student musical.
Clarkson, who recently cancelled her US tour due to poor ticket sales, confessed her secret past to US mag Cosmo Girl.
"I thought if I come back and I'm cuter and thinner… then I'll get the role," she admits. "I became bulimic for the next six months. One of my guy friends caught on to it and I just felt so ashamed and embarrassed."

New Order split: it's official
[source: NME.com] After months of speculation, New Order have finally confirmed they have split.
The news follows months of uncertainty, and a confirmation by bassist Peter Hook at the beginning of the month that the band had decided once and for all to go their own way.
Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Hook seemed upset as he explained the situation.
"It has been very sad actually, and it has been very difficult to live with, but that is life, isn't it?" he said. "But you pick yourself up, you dust yourself off, and you start all over again."
Pushed to give a reason for the split, he simply said it was "personal".

Ryan Adams: "It's a miracle I didn't die"
US singer-songwriter Ryan Adams is about to drop his ninth album, Easy Tiger, next week.
The latest offering from the prolific singer is, he admits, the first record he's laid down while completely sober.
"[It was] a miracle I didn't die," Adams said of his drug and alcohol addiction in an intimate interview with the New York Times.
"There was intense loneliness, end-of-the-world stuff going on in my mind, bottomless depression. Without exaggerating, it is a miracle I didn't die. I snorted heroin a lot… with coke. I did speedballs every day for years. And took pills. And then drank. And I don't mean a little bit. I always outdid everybody."
Easy Tiger is due to hit shelves on Tuesday June 26.

Ice Cube heads to Oz on tour
These days he may be better know for his acting roles, including the award-winning role of Doughboy in Boyz N The Hood, but in the late 80s and early 90s Ice Cube was one of the most controversial figures in hip-hop.
As a founding member of NWA, Cube stirred up trouble with hit single "F**k Tha Police", taken from 1989's groundbreaking Straight Outta Compton. After the group broke up, Cube went solo and has since sold more than 200 million albums. Now he's returning to his roots with a new album and an Australian tour that will feature appearances from Westside Connection heavyweight William Calhoun (WC).

Kylie celebrates 20 years in music
According to UK newspaper The Sun, Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue is planning a massive party in August to mark 20 years in the music business.
It's two decades since "the singing budgie" hit the top of the charts across the globe with "Locomotion" and, if you believe the rumours, she's celebrating with a million-dollar bash in London.
"She's even flying in old mates from Australia and begging her two grandmothers to make the long trip from Melbourne," The Sun claimed.
"In some ways it's a celebration of the fact she has resumed her place in the music world after her illness. It's also a chance for her to thank all the people who assisted and encouraged her."

JT: "I can't say no to a pretty face"
Justin Timberlake has hinted his new romance with 25-year-old actress Jessica Biel is getting in the way of his work.
The singer split with Cameron Diaz in 2006 but was spotted recently with Biel in Amsterdam.
"She truly insisted that she came with me on tour," Timberlake said. "I don't know how to say no to a pretty face, but it wasn't really a good idea. This time I'm putting the machine before everything else. Jessica met up with me in England but for Paris I told her categorically no. This tour is very important to me. I'm doing it really seriously so there's no question of playing sweethearts."

Black Eyed Peas singer angers fans
She might be cruising the top of the charts with recent hits like "Glamorous" and "London Bridge", but Fergie – singer from LA collective Black Eyed Peas – has earned the wrath of fans after failing to adequately perform at recent gigs.
Chicago fans purchased AU$89 tickets to see the singer perform a four-song set. But Fergie reportedly showed up an hour late, was intoxicated, and went onstage only after ordering several bottles of tequila. She then left the stage halfway into the first song.
Her representatives argued she was never expected to perform and insisted it had been an "appearance" rather than a concert.
"Sometimes she will get onstage and say a few words of 'Glamorous', but we know about every official set and this was not one."

The Saints, Easybeats and Warumpi Band archived for history
They might be best known for tracks such as "I'm Stranded" and "Friday On My Mind", but two of Australia's most renowned punk bands, The Saints and The Easybeats – alongside one of the country's most famous Aboriginal acts, The Warumpi Band – are helping to define the role sound plays in our lives.
Songs from the three acts are among the first ten recordings to appear on a National Registry Of Recorded Sound in Canberra. Launched early in 2007, the Registry has been created by the National Film And Sound Archive, who wanted to capture recordings that "defined Australian life".

Wu-Tang Clan reveal album news
Infamous US hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan are currently recording new LP The 8 Diagrams in a New York studio.
The LP will include collaborations with the likes of E.Z., Marley Marl, Q-Tip and DJ Scratch. It's the first new album from the group since 2001's Iron Flag and original member RZA told NME that working without former bandmate OBD – who died in 2004 – has been difficult.
"This isn't a comeback," RZA said. "We never went anywhere in the first place. We were just working on various different projects and this is the first group album in six years… [OBD] was a very special person, like a very rare diamond. You know, it's like you wake up one day and they're saying: 'There are not diamonds in the world anymore, just cubic zirconia'."

Mötley Crüe sue manager
Los Angeles hair rockers Mötley Crüe mince no words when it comes to former manager Carl Stubner.
The band – including drummer Tommy Lee – are suing Stubner for AU$26.4million in damages, claiming he's ripped them off and damaged their reputations as musicians.
The Crüe, who share several management partners, released a statement this week that outlines their proposed legal action.
"Stubner's motivation was greed," the band said. "Stubner stated he received significantly higher commissions on [Tommy] Lee's solo projects because he did not have to share his take with the other managers. He claimed it was a 'no-brainer' to promote Lee's projects over those of Mötley Crüe."
The band are currently anticipating the film release of infamous biography The Dirt.

Michael Jackson blames family for money woes
Michael Jackson has hit back at claims his financial troubles are the result of outlandish spending sprees.
In a legal deposition written by the singer and obtained by American newspaper NY Daily News, Jackson said his cash problems are actually a result of his money-hungry family and friends.
"It's full of sharks, charlatans and impostors," he wrote about the music industry. "Because there's a lot of money involved, there's a bunch of schmucks in there."
Recalling a deal with his brother Randy and a mutual friend, Jackson said he was almost swindled out of millions.

50 Cent won't testify in basketball star's trial
[source: NME.com] 50 Cent will not be forced to testify in the assault trial of NBA star Allen Iverson, a US federal judge has ruled.
The rapper became embroiled in the case when it emerged he knew some of the basketball player's security detail who were involved in a bar fight that led to the lawsuit. The fight occurred in 2005 in downtown Washington DC between members of Iverson's security team and bar customers.
Two customers sued for more than AU$5.95 million, accusing the entourage of assault and alleging Iverson hit one of them with a bottle,.
50 Cent was not involved in the fight, but could have been called on because of his personal association with the parties involved.
However, his lawyer argued that since he was not involved in the fight and is not named in the lawsuit, he should not have to travel from his home in Connecticut to the trial in Washington.
The federal judge agreed, since his residence is more than 100 miles from the court.

Jon Bon Jovi says Sambora is doing fine
Jon Bon Jovi says bandmate Richie Sambora's recent stint in rehab was successful.
"Richie's okay, but he's a work in progress, you know," the singer told UK paper The Mail.
"We've been in the band together for so long and gone through a whole range of experiences, but, to be honest, we'd had no real strife until recently."
Although the reason for Sambora's stay in a California clinic remains unclear, Jon Bon Jovi said the guitarist has been under a lot of stress following his divorce from Heather Locklear, break-up with actress Denise Richards and the death of his father.
"Parents were passing away, divorces were happening and kids were coming of age and suddenly it wasn't me, me, me anymore, but we, we, we."

Josh Homme wants the Stones to quit
With new album Era Vulgaris in stores this week, Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has courted controversy by talking dirty about rock legends The Rolling Stones.
"I'm really on the opposite side to what those guys are doing," Homme said. "We played with them and I totally enjoyed it; it was great to see. But they only put out albums to remind people they are going on tour. For me, it's about creative input. They only go on tour so people can hear their older songs."
Meanwhile, QOTSA drummer Joey Castillo revealed he's afraid of being hurt by one of the band's "psychotic" fans.
"We are surrounded by so many people so often," Castillo said. "I hope we never have to come cross anybody crazy. It is very scary sometimes to be mobbed by fans and all you see are tonnes of faces. It does cross my mind: 'What if somebody did want to get at me?'."

Sonic Youth team with Starbucks
Iconic New York punks Sonic Youth have teamed with coffee giant Starbucks to create a new compilation.
Singer and guitarist Thurston Moore broke the news to music website Pitchfork on Friday June15.
"We sort of devised this idea of a Sonic Youth record where we asked all these different people to choose their favourite song, people like artists and actors and other musicians and what have you," Moore revealed. "All these people, from Jeff Tweedy to Beck to Marc Jacobs to Portia de Rossi to Michelle Williams, they all chose their favourite songs and wrote a little thing about it. So it's a compilation record of artists choosing songs of Sonic Youth. There's going to be one exclusive song of ours that we'll record, so that's something we have to record."
There's no word yet on whether there are plans for a Nike commercial or Coca-Cola jingle...

Editors gig halted by armed police
[source: NME.com] Editors were forced to cut short their gig in Cologne on Wednesday June 13 after armed police stormed the venue on the premise that they were excessively loud.
"The venue was an old church over the road from a load of houses," bassist Russell Leetch told NME.COM. "During our set, [one of the residents] called the police to complain about the noise. The first we knew about it was when police turned up just as we were starting our encore. They told our tour manager to stop the set."
Fortunately, no shots were fired and the band managed to defy the police and play one extra song.
"Our tour manager bravely stalled them long enough for us to play 'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors' but we had to finish before doing 'Fingers In The Factories'," Leetch said.
"We owe Cologne a song and we promise to make it up to them next time, as long as they don't set the law on us again!"

Britney Spears asks fans to name new album
[source: NME.com] Britney Spears has asked fans to name her new album.
Posting on Britneyspears.com, the singer has put forward five possible album titles for the follow-up to 2003's In The Zone.
In a posting titled You'll Never See It My Way Because You're Not Me, Spears asked members of her fan club to vote on these titles:

1. Omg Is Like Lindsay Lohan Like Okay Like
2. What If The Joke Is On You
3. Down Boy
4. Integrity
5. Dignity

It appears Spears is making reference to her turbulent year, which has included a high-profile divorce from Kevin Federline, excessive partying with celebrity friends, trips to rehab and an infamous head-shaving incident.
Despite playing a series of low-key club shows, Spears did not play any new material. It is believed she is working on tracks with producers Sean Garrett and Jonathan Roten.

The Game rejects guilty plea for impersonating police
US rapper The Game has rejected a deal from a New York court that would have seen him plead guilty to charges of impersonating a police offer.
"Why should he plead guilty to bogus charges for a non-jail sentence if he's innocent?" the 27-year-old rapper's lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, said outside court.
"And he is innocent. It's rare I have a 100 per cent innocent defendant, but this is one."
The deal would have seen The Game accept the plea for time spent already served but the rapper wasn't having any of it. The Game was arrested last November after he allegedly told a cab driver he was an undercover police officer and persuaded the driver to run red lights.
"This case will end in a dismissal or an acquittal," Lichtman said.
The Game is due back in court on Thursday September 20.

Of course, it's unlikely much of that support will have come from actress Denise Richards, the woman Sambora broke up with recently (and the former best friend of his ex-wife, Heather Locklear).

ARIA Hall Of Fame announces new inductees
Radio Birdman, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons and Brian Cadd will all be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame on Wednesday July 18. Hoodoo Gurus, Marcia Hines and Frank Ifield will also receive the honour.
The ceremony recognises local artists whose long-standing careers have made a huge impact on the Australian music scene and will take place at the Plaza Ballroom at Melbourne's Regent Theatre.
Formed in 1974, Radio Birdman are one of Aussie rock's most defining acts. They released a new album, Zeno Beach, in 2006.
Meanwhile, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons had a huge hit in 1979 with "Shape I'm In", a reggae-infused tune that infected radio stations across the country before Joe Camilleri went on to form The Black Sorrows.
Brian Cadd has featured in bands The Groop and Axiom. The latter had a huge hit with "A Little Ray Of Sunshine".
More names are expected to be announced before the ceremony.

Oasis bigger than the Beatles? No way, McCartney says
John Lennon might've wanted to be bigger than Jesus, but there's no way another band will ever be bigger than The Beatles, according to Paul McCartney.
In an interview with Newsweek magazine, the British songwriter said he found it hilarious when Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher professed his band would eclipse the Fab Four.
"When they started out, they said they were going to be bigger than The Beatles," McCartney said. "And I felt sorry for them. It's a prediction that doesn't come true. It's a fatal prediction. I sort of sit by and go, 'Good luck, son'."

"A word from the studio," he wrote. "Yes, I know it's been a while… but we've been working on this album… we are nearly there."
No more details were forthcoming, although it's believed the album could be released in September or October.

Courtney Love hires Cobain lookalike for new band
Courtney Love has hired a new guitarist who "looks so much like Kurt [Cobain] it's weird".
The former Hole frontwoman is pulling together a new live band to help promote her new album, Nobody's Daughter, and reported the likeness in an online post. Currently in the studio with collaborator Linda Perry (who's written hits for the likes of Christina Aguilera and Pink) on the follow-up to 2004's Celebrity Skin, Love revealed she's also been searching the internet for other players.
"I spent until 6.30am on MySpace looking for a Japanese cellist," Love said. "I found one girl finally who knew one, but I think I maybe freaked her out or she didn't believe I was me. But she sent music and pics of Yuki and she's so breathtakingly beautiful! Her playing is f***ing amazing. She sent me her Carnegie Hall look. Since I'm not really into dresses right now onstage, I want other people to wear whatever they want."

Jose Gonzalez to perform one-off show
Swedish singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez is heading to Australia for a one-off show at Sydney's Factory Theatre.
Gonzalez's 2003 album, Veneer, has sold more than 700,000 copies, thanks largely to "Heartbeats", which accompanied Sony Bravia's now legendary "bouncing balls" television advertisement.
That song, a cover of fellow Swedes The Knife, showcased perfectly Gonzalez's gentle voice and knack for reinterpreting tunes (you simply have to hear his Kylie Minogue cover!).
The singer is currently adding the finishing touches to his second release, In Our Nature, which is due in stores on Saturday September 22. You can see Gonzalez at Sydney's Factory Theatre on Thursday August 16. Tickets are on sale now.

Radiohead take to the stage… as ballet
They're lauded as one of the best bands in the world and now fans of English five-piece Radiohead can experience tracks such as "Fitter Happier" in a whole new format: ballet.
Ride The Beast, a new dance production by choreographer Stephen Petronio, will debut at the Edinburgh International Festival this August. "Radiohead's music is a brilliant investigation of achingly modern taste," Petronio said.
"They sail through genre and form effortlessly and passionately and their music demands a physical response from me that bypasses reason. I simply have to work with music I love."
Petronio has previously based ballets on the likes of Rufus Wainwright, James Lavelle, Wire, Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed.

Powderfinger drummer Jon Coghill reckons the onus for stepping up to the plate is on the Brisbane five-piece.

David Bowie wins internet award
[source: NME.com] David Bowie has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement gong at the Webby awards (the "Oscars of the internet").
As well as launching BowieNet in 1998, the singer created UltraStar (a digital media company that creates online content for artists like The Rolling Stones) and BowieArt (a site that connects emerging visual artists with collectors worldwide).
In his speech, he said: "I only get five words? S**t, that was five. Four more. That's three… two."
Meanwhile, Beastie Boys won the award for Best Artist for a music video compiled from fans' footage.

Rage Against The Machine launch mysterious countdown
[source: NME.com] Rage Against The Machine have launched two mysterious countdowns on their website (www.ratm82407.com).
The first countdown will end on Monday June 11, while the second timer will finish on Friday August 24. Although the site gives no indication of what the clocks are for, enterprising fans claim to have cracked its meaning.
According to an update on Wikipedia, if users set the internal clocks on their computers forward to the deadlines, the site then reveals its meaning.
The June 11 deadline will apparently reveal the website's purpose, while repeating the trick will also explain the later countdown.
"The website is registered to Live Nation Worldwide, Inc. Live Nation owns Alpine Valley Music Theatre, in East Troy, Wisconsin," Wikipedia explains. "By turning your PC clock forward to June 11 the website reveals that RATM will be playing a show there when the second countdown ends on August 24, 2007."
While Rage Against The Machine reformed for this year's Coachella Festival, there are currently no more gigs confirmed, although rumours suggest the band will head to the UK later this year.

AC/DC drummer escapes criminal charges
AC/DC drummer Phillip Rudd has avoided criminal charges after he argued an official reprimand would hurt his career.
In an appearance at Tauranga District Court on Thursday, Rudd admitted to assaulting his former partner in his hometown of Mount Maunganui. But the charges were downgraded as a result of an early guilty plea.
Judge Robert Kerr discharged the 53-year-old rocker after his lawyer successfully argued that the detriment to his career outweighed the seriousness of the offence.

Slipknot singer to join Anthrax
Slipknot singer Corey Taylor appears to be on the verge of joining Anthrax.
Taylor recently confirmed he'd been working with the band on their upcoming release but, in an interview with German magazine Roch Hard, refused to be drawn further on the matter.
"I'm not saying anything right now because it's only been talked about. Obviously, I'm really good friends with those guys. It kind of started as a joke and then the more we talked about it, the more serious it got. I'm gonna at least help them out. It's kind of a dream come true: Anthrax is one of my favourite bands. Cliff Richard deters anti-social youths
A travelling fun-fair in the UK has come up with an unusual way to fight anti-social behaviour: it plays Cliff Richard songs to keep troublesome kids away.
According to Seth Carter from Carters Steam Fair, gangs who'd been hanging out at their Essex-based event copped an earful of Richard's "The Young Ones" last week.
"You don't really need Asbos [Anti-Social Behaviour Orders from the police] when you've got Cliffbos," Seth told UK newspaper The Guardian.
"They weren't causing trouble, as such, but they were worrying families and putting them off going on the rides. The gang had completely left the fair before the track was half over. They don't like that kind of music; it's not cool enough."

U2 mount songwriting sessions in Africa
[source: NME.com] U2 are in Morocco with long-term production collaborators Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, although it's believed the pair's involvement is restricted to songwriting.
"It's the first time we've worked with Brian and Dan in a purely songwriting capacity," Larry Mullen Jr told U2.com. "So it's very different – quite experimental and kind of liberating."
However, the band are reluctant to confirm whether or not the new tracks will appear on the next album.
"We have no plans for the music yet," Bono explained. "We're just going to make it until we can't not put it out!"

Eminem stalked by rap wannabe
[source: NME.com] An Eminem fan went too far when he stole the rapper's number from his ex-wife's phone.
Kyle Spratt stole Kim Mathers' mobile and wrote down Eminem's number before returning the phone. Spratt then called Eminem in the hope that the rapper would agree to listen to a demo tape.
The wannabe musician recorded the phone conversations and turned them into a song called "Slim Sellout". He posted them on www.myspace.com/kylespratt but they have since been removed.
Spratt wrote: "I don't care if he comes back. I don't care if he hears it… But I'm almost positive he will… F**k Eminem."

Blur head into the studio?
After months of rumours, it seems seminal UK pop outfit Blur are finally ready to re-enter the recording studio.
According to an un-named source who works with the band, the band will start writing and recording a new album in a London studio.
"They've all had lots on with solo projects, cartoon bands and farming," the source told British newspaper The Mirror. "But by the end of [the northern hemisphere] summer, their plates will be clear. They'll go into the studio in November."
Former guitarist Graham Coxon has been discussing the potential reunion since last year.
"Would it be a bit too scary? What would the dynamic be in a studio? Would I have to do promotion? Would I tour? You know, it's a lot of thinking," Coxon told Pitchfork Media. "So I guess I still mull around and think about it every now and then."
Blur's last album was 2003's Think Tank.

Marilyn Manson labels My Chemical Romance "sad"
[source: NME.com] Marilyn Manson has stuck the knife into fellow goth types My Chemical Romance.
In an interview with The London Paper, Manson revealed new song "Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery" is about Gerard Way's outfit. It features the blunt lyrics, "F**k you, f**k you".
The shock-rocker was happy to elaborate on the attack.
"I'm embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I've done.
"If they want to identify with me then here's a razor blade. Call me when you're done and we'll talk."
The swipe comes just days before the two acts are set to share a stage – albeit one day after another – at the Download Festival at Donington Park. My Chemical Romance headline on Friday, with Manson playing before Linkin Park on the Saturday.

Paul McCartney's latest album faces sales battle
[source: NME.com] Paul McCartney faces a major sales snag as hundreds of copies of his latest album have been ruled ineligible for the UK charts.
McCartney's 21st solo album, Memory Almost Full, has just been released on the new Starbucks label, Hear Music. But Starbucks' 533 UK stores are not registered with the Official Chart Company, which means albums bought in stores will not count towards the Top 40.
The album is still likely to chart highly, however, as it's also being sold through traditional retailers and download services.
Meanwhile, fans of the former Beatle have been invited to attend Starbucks stores around the world to record video messages for the star's 65th birthday later this month.

According to a spokesperson for US label Lost Highway, the collection may include live tracks as well as unreleased albums 48 Hours, The Suicide Handbook, Bedhead and songs from the Easy Tiger sessions. It's believed the set would not include tracks released through Ryan-Adams.com under the monikers DJ Reggie, WereWolph, The S**t and others.
"[Those web projects weren't] meant to be anything more than just a laugh," Adams explained. "It was a thing to do after shows. It was fun – a chance to experiment with rap stuff."
Meanwhile, Adams said the new album, Easy Tiger, is "like a bunch of individual poems".
"I have no reservations about trying to link anything together. I still feel unfamiliar with this record. Even though I wrote them, I still feel like I don't know enough about them yet."

Jarvis Cocker attacks TV talent shows
[source: NME.com] Former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker has criticised TV talent shows like Pop Idol and X Factor.
"It saddens me because I love pop music and these shows prove that it's become an industrialised process," Cocker said.
"They never pick people with great voices. They pick people who show off how many notes they can fit into a ten-second period.
"A great voice expresses something and gives you some idea of the personality behind the voice. There's zero personality in the voices of any of the people who sing on these shows."
Cocker admitted he would be "straight out" if he ever appeared on a TV talent show.
"The kind of pop I was brought up on is over," he told Radio Times. "The pop charts used to be where everything happened. Now the most interesting stuff is happening in the independent music sector."

Wilco sell songs to Volkswagen
Alt-country act Wilco have been forced to defend themselves after selling "The Thanks I Get" and "You Are My Face" to car manufacturer Volkswagen.
Angry fans labelled the group sell-outs on the band's website, which prompted a hasty official statement.
"We see this as another way to get the music out there," Wilco announced. "This is a subject we've discussed internally many times over the years. With the commercial radio airplay route getting more difficult for many bands (including Wilco), we see this as another way to get the music out there. As with most of the above (with the debatable exception of radio), the band gets paid for this. And we feel okay about VWs. Several of us even drive them."

Jay-Z and Beyoncé: marrying at last
Pop superstars Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z have confirmed they're set to marry following Jay-Z's recent proposal in Cannes, France.
Having spent more than five years together, the couple have, until now, maintained tight-lipped about their relationship. But Knowles finally revealed their plans in an interview with News Of The World.
"I want to get married and I really want a family. In a perfect world I'd have two boys and a girl," Beyoncé said. "You know someone loves you by the way he treats you and respects you. Me and Jay respect each other."

The Fray frontman to inherit English Mansion?
Issac Slade – frontman for Denver, Colorado, outfit The Fray – is set to inherit an AU$18million English estate from distant relative and 60-year-old aristocrat Sir Benjamin Slade.
Having launched a well-publicised search for a relative back in 2006, the wealthy Slade says his 150-acre estate – with three lakes and a ballroom – currently has no one to look after it.
"All my relatives in England have their own large houses and had no interest in taking on another place," he claimed.
The rocker recently spent time with Slade at the property and the pair are investigating their family links further.
"We're trying to check our family trees at the moment," Sir Slade said.
