Bono: "I slept uneasily last night"
[source: NME.com] U2 frontman Bono has spoken about his reaction to the recent violence in Myanmar in which nine people have been killed.
The country's Buddhist monks are leading protests against the military government's decision to double the price of fuel last month.
Despite peaceful protests by the monks, many have been arrested, hundreds of them dragged from their beds on Wednesday 26 September during invasions of the country's monasteries.
National League for Democracy Party leader Aung San Suu Kyi (for whom Bono wrote "Walk On") is reportedly under house arrest, with a heavily guarded presence on the street where she lives.
The protests were peaceful until yesterday when security forces opened fire on protesters.
Speaking at the premiere of "Across The Universe", Bono said he prayed the monks' non-violence would win out over the ugliness of the situation.
"There is jeopardy. I slept uneasily last night, and I'm sure everyone else that watched did too," he said. "How far are they going to have to go?"

Bright Eyes to team with Los Angeles Philharmonic
[source: NME.com] Bright Eyes will perform alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend.
The concert has been a labour of love for Conor Oberst, who's spent eight months composing the 60-piece orchestral score.
Band member Nate Walcott told Billboard just how difficult it's been, arranging parts for 40 strings, 11 brass and 12 woodwinds.
"It's hard to do anything on tour, let alone put together 15 arrangements for the Los Angeles Philharmonic."
The Bright Eyes band member also revealed that the show will comprise songs from the past eight years, many of which will contain orchestral elements.
Although there are no plans for any further orchestral concerts, Walcott has implied he would not be surprised if other shows materialised.

Martin Scorsese to film Beatles doco
Esteemed American filmmaker Martin Scorsese – who helmed the likes of The Departed and Goodfellas – is set to direct a documentary on late Beatles guitarist George Harrison.
It won't be the first time Scorsese has captured musicians on film: two of his works include 2005 doco No Direction Home: Bob Dylan and cult hit The Last Waltz.
"Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I'm looking forward to delving deeper," Scorsese said in an e-mailed press release.
"It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story," Harrison's widow, Olivia, said.
The former Beatle died of lung cancer and a brain tumour at the age of 58 on 29 November, 2001.
Meanwhile, Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino has said he wants to cast Ringo Starr in his next film.
"I'm Elvis over the Beatles any day of the week but there's always been something special about Ringo," the director said. "I've always thought he had the best stage presence in the band."

Kanye West is "just like Jesus", says mum
Kanye West's mother has compared her son to Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Jesus.
Discussing the hip-hop star's appearance at this weekend's Baltimore Book Festival, Donda West was asked whether being brought up in a middle-class neighbourhood had helped her son give a positive voice to hip-hop.
"I do think that Kanye is a voice that can definitely be used and should be used not only in hip-hop but across the arts," she told local newspaper The Baltimore Sun.
"I think he is broader than a genre. I think he has a calling to reach a number of people. Kanye keeps it real. He touches the people. You never know how words can save a person's life, physically or otherwise. People like Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi or, in my view, Barack Obama, or Jesus Christ – people whose job it is to tell the truth – I see that in Kanye."

Notorious B.I.G. not killed by cops, says witness
The murder mystery surrounding the death of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. took another twist yesterday when a key witness changed his story.

Anderson initially implicated an officer in the shooting but now says he lied as part of a scam to help win a monetary settlement from the city.

Sex Pistols return to the studio

Reports also claim the band have re-recorded cult hit “Anarchy In The UK” for use on upcoming video game Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock.
“I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out but it actually turned out great and I think everyone held their own,” guitarist Steve Jones said.
“I like [Guitar Hero] because my friends’ kids like it. And I like what kids like.”
Jones remained tight-lipped, however, when asked if the band had written any new tunes.

Snow Patrol keyboardist escapes prosecution
Snow Patrol keyboardist Tom Simpson may escape legal prosecution for cocaine possession after his arrest in July.
Simpson was due to appear in a Glasgow courtroom yesterday, but his case wasn’t called, leading local media to believe the issue will be dropped.
According to lawyer Alistair Bonnington: “When a case is ‘not called’, that simply means that in the meantime the case is not proceeding. The Crown can re-raise it, but if nothing else happens, if the Crown doesn’t bring it back to court on a separate occasion, then the case is at an end.”
Simpson hasn’t offered a statement about his legal woes.

Accused of shooting actress Lana Clarkson in the head at his Alhambra, California mansion in 2003, Spector has undergone five months of trial, with the Los Angeles District Attorney saying the case is far from over.
“We will immediately begin to prepare for a new trial,’’ DA spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said.

No kids yet, says Delta
With her self-titled new album due out later next month, Aussie star Delta Goodrem won't be becoming a mum anytime soon.
The 22-year-old singer lives in London with Westlife singer Brian McFadden, who she's been dating since he broke up with his ex-wife (former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona) in 2004.
According to McFadden – dad to daughters Molly, six, and Lilly-Sue, four – the couple have no plans to add to their brood.
"I think two are plenty for now," McFadden said. "With our careers it wouldn't be wise to have kids at this point. We need to keep working. Possibly further down the line, but we're not thinking about it."

Beastie Boys seek vocalists for The Mix-Up
Not content with the reception this year's The Mix-Up LP received, New York trio Beastie Boys are in the midst of planning a new version of the album that will feature a variety of guest singers.
The instrumental disc will be reworked, according to bassist Adam Yauch, who said the band are "talking to some different artists who might do remixes and put vocals on it".
"It wouldn't be us doing vocals. It would be kind of like a different version of the album, with a bunch of people guesting on it."
Apparently, M.I.A., Lily Allen and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker are all on the wishlist.
"It'll be interesting to see what they do with the stuff," Yauch said, before revealing plans for a visual interpretation as well.
"We've been travelling with a Super 8 camera," he revealed, "and while we were in Singapore we filmed stuff, as well as in Australia and different places. We're talking about cutting it together into a full-length film that kinda goes the length of the album."

George Michael to guest with Ricky Gervais?
British pop star George Michael – who recently spent time doing community service after a string of court appearances – is set to satirise his own private troubles on television when he makes an appearance on Ricky Gervais's Extras.
In the final Christmas show of the cult hit series, Michael is reportedly featured cruising London's Hampstead Heath, smoking cannabis and eating a kebab before bumping into Gervais's character and asking if there's any "action" going.
It'll be the first time the former Wham! singer has made fun of his troubles; in May this year, Michael was arrested in London, pleading guilty to driving while unfit after being discovered by police slumped in his car.

Lenny Kravitz readies new album…
US singer Lenny Kravitz will release new album It Is Time For A Love Revolution in February.
According to the "Are You Gonna Go My Way" singer, the new disc covers a lot of ground.
"There are spiritual love songs, and social love songs, political, sad, happy and everything in between – it's about a lot of things," the 43-year-old rocker said.
While Kravitz ducked questions about whether he was or wasn't the mysterious man Nicole Kidman was engaged to before marrying Keith Urban, he was happy to talk about another woman in his life: his daughter Zoe. "She's a great human being and she knows what she wants to do with her life," Kravitz said.
"She's doing it in a very classy way and I'm very proud of her. I don't rule her life. I was put here to teach her what I know, and that's what parents should do, and I feel like she has good knowledge to make good choices. You don't have to be in the spotlight to have problems… it's really about how you handle it."

Bodyguard: "Britney doesn't listen to nobody"
[source: NME.com] Britney Spears' former bodyguard has appeared on US TV to speak about his role in the singer's custody battle.
Tony Barretto appeared with lawyer Gloria Allred on The Today Show on Tuesday 24 September and discussed Spears' use of drugs and alcohol.
He said he saw Spears use drugs in a Los Angeles nightclub and described how she ordered him to hold a curtain in front of her for privacy while she used drugs.
Barretto also recalled an incident in which he accompanied her to a private bathroom and waited outside for some time. When he became concerned, he opened the door and witnessed her using drugs again.
He also described finding Spears in a Los Angeles hotel room "completely strung out, sweaty and shaking".
"It was almost forbidden to talk to her about her personal life," Baretto revealed, "and Britney doesn't listen to nobody."
Barretto's lawyer, Gloria Allred, who also represents Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline, said: "The court did find that she is a continuous, frequent and habitual user of controlled substances and alcohol and we believe that is because of Baretto's declaration."
When asked why he spoke out about Spears' private life, Barretto said he was trying to protect the singer's two young children.
"My frustrations at the time when I worked for her were not being able to protect them from her, and I have accomplished that now," he said.

Paul McCartney for Shrek 4?

McCartney is said to be keen to get involved with the next instalment in the animated series, as three-year-old daughter Beatrice is a big fan.
"I'm a huge fan of Shrek", McCartney told The Sun. "As is my little girl. I can do a really good impression of him – I put on my best Scottish accent!"

Dr Dre's new album to be his last
[source: NME.com] Dr Dre has confirmed new album Detox is likely to be his last solo record.
The follow-up to 1999's 2001, which was supposed to be out this year, will now be released in 2008, with Dre admitting he still has two or three tracks to record.
"I was really hoping to have it out this year, but it's going to be pushed back a while because of some other things I've got to work on."
Dre's currently producing the new Eminem album and confirmed he'll be trying to get that finished before wrapping up work on his own record..
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about his decision to stop releasing music, Dr Dre said he prefers producing and writing without the rigmarole of interviews and promotional appearances.
"I think it's time to move on," he said, before calling performing "a young man's game".
Shedding light on some of the reasons behind Detox's long gestation, Dre said: "When I think of the future, I think of Quincy Jones. Look at the quality of his work over the years. He didn't even make his best record, Thriller, until he was 50. Nothing pulls you back into the studio more than the belief that your best record is still ahead."

Dave Grohl: "I nearly gave up music after Kurt died"
[source: NME.com] Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has spoken of the moment he almost gave up music following the death of lead singer Kurt Cobain.
Speaking on Virgin Radio, Grohl revealed his feelings of confusion after Nirvana split.
"When Nirvana was finished I didn't really know what to do. Our lives and our world were turned upside down," he explained. "It's hard to imagine playing music after something like that. It was hard for me. I had always written and recorded songs by myself. I wouldn't really play them for anyone."
Grohl, who has fronted Foo Fighters since 1995, went on to pinpoint the moment he returned to the studio.
"After Nirvana was finished I spent a lot of time just travelling around and thinking. Then I thought, 'I know what I will do, I'll book six days in the studio down the street from my house and I'll record my favourite 12 or 13 songs I've ever written'," he said. "I never thought I'd still be here doing this. Never."

Jason Donovan confirms OD, feels sorry for Amy
Former Neighbours star and singer Jason Donovan has confirmed he overdosed on cocaine at Kate Moss's 21st birthday party.
Currently writing his autobiography, Donovan says he overdosed at the party, held at Johnny Depp's Los Angeles Club, The Viper Room.
"I knew the symptoms all too well, for it was not the first time this had happened to me," he wrote in Between The Lines: My Life Uncut.
"My heart was racing, my vision was blurring and I was becoming disorientated… I am not sure what happened next but I do know that someone had pulled the plug on the music and was calling for an ambulance."
Donovan also admitted feeling sympathetic towards troubled pop stars like Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears.
"I was only 17 when I walked into a television show that totally changed my life. Britney Spears is a classic example – a lot of money, very famous, very young and she just wants to rebel… I can understand it, I've been there. My advice to Amy or Britney would be, if you don't like it, become a plumber."

With a planned G8 meeting due to take place next week (which will see government heads from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States come together), the "Candle In The Wind" songwriter said he hopes Brown will ensure the G8's pledge to make AIDS treatments universally available within three years is maintained.
"I believe Gordon Brown's leadership and vision on this issue is urgently needed," John said. "After all, he played a central role in bringing world leaders to commit to universal access, and he helped found the Global Fund, which has proven itself by saving an estimated 1.8 million lives. If the UK were to provide AU$1632 million over three years, tripling its annual contribution by 2010, it would challenge the rest of the world to follow suit."

PJ Harvey explains classical inspiration
[source: NME.com] PJ Harvey's new album, White Chalk, has been inspired by a host of classical artists.
The singer said she listened to the likes of Beethoven, Bach, Handel, Arvo Part and Gorecki while writing the songs, after Nick Cave guitarist Mick Harvey sent her a host of compilation tapes.
"I've never used this voice before," she said. "I call it my 'church voice' because it's the one I would use when I went to church with my gran once a year to sing Christmas carols."
Harvey also revealed that, prior to recording the album, she spent the best part of a year in LA playing bass in a group run by Morris Tepper, formerly a member of the last incarnation of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band.
"It was fantastic, lifting gear around, driving vans to venues, rehearsing and practising new songs. It really made me think about tuning in to other people, and I'm not used to doing that," she told The Times.
According to Harvey, White Chalk took five months to record in the home studio of U2 producer Flood.

Ramones drummer sues Apple and Wal-Mart
[source: NME.com] A former member of The Ramones has filed suit against Apple Inc and Wal-Mart Stores Inc for copyright infringement.
Drummer Richard Reinhardt alleges the companies did not have permission to sell downloads of six songs he wrote.
The suit also names the estate of Ramones guitarist Johnny Ramone, Ramones Production Inc and their music publisher as defendants.
Reinhardt said the music publisher gave improper authorisation to third-parties, including Apple iTunes and Wal-Mart.com's music download service to sell the material.
The songs Reinhardt names in the lawsuit are "Smash You", "Somebody Put Something in My Drink", "Human Kind", "I'm Not Jesus, I Know Better Now" and "(You) Can't Say Anything Nice".
The suit was filed on Friday 21 September in the US Federal Court in Manhattan.

Britney Spears' bodyguard makes further drugs claims
[source: NME.com] Britney Spears' former bodyguard has made further claims over the singer's alleged drug taking.
As previously reported, the singer was ordered to undergo random drug testing in the custody battle for her children by a US court after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott M Gordon said Spears displayed "a habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol".
Former bodyguard Tony Barretto also accused Spears of developing "nudity, drug and safety" issues after she left her rehab centre in March.
Now Barretto has shed further light on the matter. He told News Of The World: "I gave evidence to the court because Britney is out of control and needs help.
"I have done this for her children. She's not a good mother. She has mental problems. With her drug and booze issues, her home is no place for kids to be raised.
"I hope this will be a wake-up call to her. I like Britney. All I want is for her to be a success and a good mum."
Barretto started working for Spears after her rehab treatment but was fired on Thursday 17 May after he failed to hear her order "to pick up her hat".
His comments come after the pop star was charged with hit-and-run and driving without a valid licence.
Spears could face up to six months in jail and a $1000 fine if convicted.

Justin Timberlake supports Britney
US singer Justin Timberlake – who's preparing to head to Australia next month – has opened up about the troubles of former flame Britney Spears.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Timberlake revealed he no longer keeps in touch with Spears but still has warm feelings for the singer.
"I haven't spoken to her in years," the 26-year-old singer told Winfrey. "There's no ill will. I have nothing but love for her. It's funny because we dated each other at a time… Wow, I haven't talked about this in a long time, this is interesting. We were teenagers. And I think that's basically the best way to describe what happened to us. I think she's a great person."
While Timberlake admitted he doesn't know Britney now as well as he did, he insisted she "has a huge heart and she's a great person".

David Bowie to help the Jena Six
David Bowie has come to the aid of the Jena Six – six African-American teenagers in Louisiana who've been charged in an attack on a white classmate, following incidents where nooses were hung from trees in the school grounds.
The "Let's Dance" singer has donated AU$11,560 to the defence fund for the boys, believing their extreme sentences were racially motivated.
"There is clearly a separate and unequal judicial process going on in the town of Jena," Bowie said. "A donation to the Jena Six Legal Defence Fund is my small gesture, indicating my belief that a wrongful charge and sentence should be prevented."

Duran Duran shoot X-rated video in LA
[source: NME.com] Duran Duran have shot two versions of a new video for forthcoming single "Falling Down", with one edit particularly racy.
The song, co-written and produced by Justin Timberlake, is the lead track from new album Red Carpet Massacre, which is due out in mid-November. And, just as the band did for 1981 single "Girls On Film", they've produced two versions of the video to please the censors.
Inspired by a fashion magazine photo shoot that depicted models in rehab, the clips were shot with director Anthony Mandler at an old hospital in downtown LA.
Original band members Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor dressed sharply in white suits, portraying doctors, while several glamorous models – some topless – portrayed girls in treatment.
"The concept of models in rehab has so much to do with what the song's about," frontman Le Bon told NME.
"It's very sad but there's a kind of beauty in it as well. The song is about arrogance and pride, as well as personal breakdowns and the hope for redemption and the resilience of the human spirit," he said.
Le Bon said the song's theme subconsciously came from a severe motorcycle accident he was involved in back in 1992.
"I was thrown to the ground at 90 miles an hour and I had enough time to think, 'If I survive this accident, I'll never race again'," Le Bon recalled.
"That's what I was referring to in the song. It was very personal and very easy to write. It's not about motorcycle racing, but I remember thinking, 'Please let me survive, I don't want to die'."

My Chemical Romance slam emo
[source: NME.com] My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has tried to distance the band from the "emo" tag, going as far as calling the genre a "pile of s**t" during an interview with American college website The Maine Campus.
"I think there are bands that we get lumped in with that are considered emo and, by default, that starts to make us emo. All I can say is that anyone actually listening to the records, putting the records next to each other and listening to them, [would know there are] actually no similarities."
The singer went on to talk about his band's upcoming support slots with Bon Jovi.
"It's a huge honour," he said. "I grew up as a Bon Jovi fan."

George Michael retracts HIV interview
[source: NME.com] George Michael has asked the BBC to drop an interview in which he openly discusses his fears of having HIV.
The BBC have since confirmed the interview will no longer feature in upcoming TV documentary Stephen Fry: HIV And Me.
The two-part programme examines the spread of HIV, and even results in presenter Stephen Fry taking an HIV test himself.
George Michael's interview reportedly quotes him as saying he "does not believe in tests".
BBC producer Ross Wilson explained: "He says he finds the wait for results too harrowing and that he hasn't had a test since at least 2004 due to his fears it might be positive."
The pop singer's partner, Anselmo Feleppa, died of an Aids-related illness in 1995.
Addressing the interview removal, Michael's spokesman said: "On reflection, he felt it was too close and too personal a journey."

Rod Stewart's son to face criminal charges
Aspiring model Sean Stewart – 27-year-old son of English crooner Rod Stewart – will go to court next month, charged with throwing a brick at a car while attending a Hollywood party in April.
Yesterday a Los Angeles judge ruled Stewart – the producer of reality TV show Sons Of Hollywood – should go to trial, after witnesses claimed he threw a brick at a couple in a pick-up truck. The brick allegedly caused considerable damage to the vehicle but not its occupants.
Pleading not guilty, Stewart reportedly has witnesses who'll state it wasn't him who threw the missile, but, according to Judge Julius Title, "it will be up to the trial court to decide the credibility of the witnesses".

Johnny Rotten lays into Sting
Former Sex Pistol frontman John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) has labelled Sting a "soggy old dead carcass".
Speaking about The Police's 2007 reunion, the spiky-haired vocalist said it was all a load of bollocks.
"That really is a reformation isn't it?" Lyndon quipped. "But honestly, that's like soggy old dead carcasses…
"Listening to 'Stink' trying to squeak through 'Roxanne' one more time isn't fun. It's like letting air out of a balloon."
Lyndon also offered his own personal insight into troubled British stars Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty.
"It's a slow suicide and it's a cry for help because they're in pain. They're in mental pain," he said. "And this is a disgusting industry because people just cut you dead. The general public aren't too wise about what that means to be constantly in the limelight. It's a pain in the arse."

Britney Spears to undergo drug tests
A US judge has ordered Britney Spears to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week in order to meet with custody stipulations in her current battle with former husband Kevin Federline.
"Based on the evidence presented, the court finds that there is a habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol," Superior Court Judge Scott M. Gordon said.
Gordon also issued a statement ordering both Spears and Federline to "refrain from drinking and using drugs around their two young children and 12 hours before either cares for them", however only Spears was ordered to undergo random testing.
Spears must also meet for eight hours a week with a "parenting coach" and complete the court's Parenting Without Conflict class.

Kaiser Chiefs to head back into the studio?
English indie rockers Kaisers Chiefs say they're desperate to start work on the follow-up to 2007's Yours Truly, Angry Mob.
According to drummer Nick Hodgson, the band have a slew of new material they've so far been unable to capture on tape.
"We are just really desperate to write some new stuff," Nick confessed to Billboard.com yesterday.
"We don't know exactly what we're going to put out, but it will be next year. We're very keen on breaking the cycle of what normal bands do, which is an album every two years, tour for a year-and-a-half and then take six months to write the next one. Not only does it get predictable, it gets boring. A lot of our contemporaries do the same thing."

The report also reveals that some of the album was recorded at an eco-friendly studio in Los Angeles, owned by Jack Johnson.

Britney could lose custody of kids
[source: NME.com] New reports claim Britney Spears is about to lose temporary custody of her children.
The latest allegation of improper behaviour comes from former bodyguard Tony Barretto, who's accused the singer of developing "nudity, drug and safety" issues after leaving rehab in March.
Barretto began working for Spears after her rehab treatment but said he was fired on Thursday 17 May after he failed to hear her order to "pick up her hat".
The news comes at the end of a bizarre seven days, which have seen both the star's lawyer and new management team bail out on her.
Lawyer Laura Wasser abandoned the Spears ship and even her new management team, The Firm, withdrew their services.
In a statement issued by the company, they declared: "It saddens us to confirm media reports that we have terminated our professional relationship with Britney Spears, but current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job. We wish Britney the best."
According to reports in the US, authorities will now force Britney to hand custody of two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James to their father, Kevin Federline.

Barbra Streisand to snub Oz?
Early reports suggest US superstar Barbra Streisand will visit New Zealand next year but bypass Australia.
According to sources within Streisand's booking agency, the singer is still upset over the criticism she received while touring Australia more than seven years ago. Then, on her Timeless tour, the singer used an autocue, only to be heckled by fans.
"She felt misunderstood and her efforts to reach out to audiences were not fully appreciated," a source said, however tour promoter Andrew McManus said "nothing is definite".
"She wants to play markets she did not perform on her last tour," McManus claimed. "So it's New Zealand this time and not Australia."

Sweet Home Alabama…
"Sweet Home Alabama" is already one of the most recognised rock songs from the 70s, but now Lynyrd Skynyrd's hit will be used by state tourism authorities in the US to entice visitors to the area.
According to State Tourism Director Lee Sentell, the song's title will be used in a AU$5.4 million marketing programme in 2008. Expect to see T-shirts, bandanas and caps all wearing the slogan in a move that will earn the band approximately AU$25,000 in royalties.
There aren't, however, any plans to use the actual song in the campaign.

Rage Against The Machine to tour Australia
It's been almost ten years since their last visit but reformed LA outfit Rage Against The Machine will return to Australia in January.
The band – comprising vocalist Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, drummer Brad Wilk and bassist Tim Commerford – are sure-fire additions to the 2008 Big Day Out and have revealed they'll play two side-shows, in Sydney and Melbourne.
"Is it coincidence that in the seven years Rage Against the Machine has been away America has slid into right-wing purgatory? I think not," Tom Morello told MTV earlier in 2007.
"It occurred to all of us that the time was right to see if we can knock the Bush administration out in one fell swoop, and we hope to do that job well. There is no action without reaction and we're part of that reaction."
Tickets for the gigs go on sale Thursday 27 September.

Controversial Diddy commercial online
It's been banned from television in the US, but that hasn't stopped hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs from airing his controversial TV commercial for new fragrance Unforgivable Woman.
Fans of the "Come To Me" star can now check out the raunchy ads ads on Diddy's MySpace page.
"I feel strongly that this movie needs to be viewed and judged by the public rather than by executives," he said in a statement yesterday.
"Some people may be uncomfortable with the sensuality and sexual content, but it is important for them to make that decision personally. Since we launched the Sean John brand ten years ago, we have taken chances and done many non-traditional things. This three-minute movie is no different and will revolutionise the way people view fragrances forever."

Arctic Monkeys attacked by bedbugs
[source: NME.com] Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and The Rascals singer Miles Kane were joined by unwelcome visitors on a farm in France recently.
Kane explained the pair were surprised to uncover an army of bedbugs when they settled down for the first night in their new home.
"There were loads of animals outside – it was a proper farm and the fella who runs it used to cook our tea every night.
"Al [Turner] and I shared a massive room with six little beds," Kane told the Liverpool Echo, "and they all had fleas and bedbugs. I would move beds every night but they still found me.
"I had loads of bites on my ankles. Maybe I've got sweet blood," he joked.
As previously revealed on NME.COM, the duo are currently recording under the name Turner And Kane and an album should be out sometime in 2008, after The Rascals release their debut album.

Dave Grohl finally opens up about Courtney Love
[source: NME.com] Dave Grohl has finally spoken about his heartbreak over Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's rocky relationship with Courtney Love.
In an interview with The Guardian, the Foo Fighters singer addressed rumours the band's "Let It Die" is about the infamous couple.
The lyrics depicting "a simple man and his blushing bride, intravenous, intertwined" have already courted controversy, with many listeners assuming the lines refer to Cobain and Love.
Addressing the claims, Grohl explained the song was "written about feeling helpless to someone else's demise".
Speaking directly about Cobain and Love, he said: "I've seen people lose it all to drugs and heartbreak and death. It's happened more than once in my life, but the one that's most noted is Kurt."

Johnny Cash is not a criminal, says Starkville
He might have passed away, but US country music legend Johnny Cash is set to have his name cleared next month during the Johnny Cash Flower Pickin' Festival.
Back in May 1965, the "Walk The Line" singer was arrested in the Mississippi town of Starkville and locked up for 24 hours after he took flowers from a local resident's garden without permission.
"I was screaming, cussing and kicking at the cell door all night long until I finally broke my big toe," Cash later wrote of his night in the can.
"At 8am the next morning they let me out when they knew I was sober."
The festival, which took two years to get up and running and will see Cash officially pardoned for the crime, has been organised by music writer Robert Ward.

Seal to release System album
London-born singer Seal will release new album System in November.
It's the first release since 2003's Seal IV, and album number five for the "Crazy" singer.
"It's a "return to my roots," Seal said. "I wanted to go back to the guitar, to the very first instrument I wrote 'Crazy' and 'Killer' on, and get back to the fundamentals of what I really love to do."
Seal claims the LP is inspired by wife and supermodel Heidi Klum.
"Family, my wife and children, that's my reason for being," he admitted. "Everything is done with them in mind, so perhaps that's the reason this new album is up-tempo. That's why the album is called System. It's saying that against the odds, we have chosen to take control of our emotional system."

System tracklisting:

"Swoosh"
"Amazing"
"Just Like Before"
"Loaded"
"Wedding Day"
"System"
"Silence"
"The Right Life"
"Rolling"
"Immaculate"

"I'd really like to perform on the same stage as the Spice Girls," Lopez said. "Even before we were friends, Posh was always my favourite."
Meanwhile, the five-piece are rumoured to be undertaking a not-so-secret warm-up show at London's Astoria in November, before their world tour begins.

Tori Amos lends Britney a helping hand
Tori Amos and Britney Spears are an unlikely pairing: one's a kooky redhead renowned for performing in character, the other's a pop starlet with a lot on her plate.
Currently in Australia on her American Doll Posse tour, singer-songwriter Amos has spoken out in support of Britney Spears… by including her in song.
Hitting the stage in Melbourne last week, Amos was mid-song when she told the crowd Britney "needed a mother to pick her up".
"Britney, they set you up, but you drank from their cup," Amos's lyrics read. "Britney, they set you up, oh, but this is what it looks like, love. This is what is looks like when a star falls down, when a star falls down."

Pete Doherty pens song for Amy Winehouse
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has allegedly written a song called "Amy On The Med" for troubled star Amy Winehouse.
According to reports, the song's lyrics purport to show a bit of understanding for the "Rehab" singer's recent drug battles.
"Amy on the mend," Doherty sings, "all that passion to spend, like a paper Boadicea in a battle to the end, end, end."
Doherty, former boyfriend to model Kate Moss, is currently undergoing a rehab stint and sent Winehouse the song in a frame with the message: "Love, Pete".
Don't expect Winehouse to go into treatment anytime soon.
"I didn't enjoy rehab," she recently confessed. "I don't want to go back. I missed my friends and my mum and dad. They are the ones that are there for me. I have been doing better now and that's because of my friends."

Gallows singer's head split open on stage
[source: NME.com] Gallows singer Frank Carter's head was split open on Saturday 15 September during a gig at Stoke's Sugarmill venue.
The incident, which required Carter to cut the gig short and visit hospital, occurred during a typically raucous show from the Watford rockers.
Prior to the gig, Carter had told NME he expected the show to be "mental", as it was packed out and there were no security guards, barriers or a pit between the audience and the stage.
Following sets from support acts Lethal Bizzle and Black Hole, Gallows took to the stage and prompted hysteria from the fans.
Fans reportedly piled on to the performance area, stage diving and sharing the microphone with Carter. Shortly into the set, Carter and one fan play-wrestled and sang together, but both tumbled over in the commotion. Carter's forehead smashed against the floor, causing blood to gush from the wound.
He continued singing but when the song was over, he announced he was going to A&E.
Frank Carter's brother, Black Hole's Rich Carter, stepped onstage and sang "In The Belly Of A Shark" and "Cassanova" before the band called it a night.
Carter is expected to make a full recovery and the UK tour is currently scheduled to continue as normal.

Limp Bizkit frontman pleads no contest in assault case

Durst, 37, allegedly hit two Los Angeles residents with his vehicle on Thursday 26 October, 2006.
Misdemeanour charges were filed three month later, including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of battery and one count each of making a criminal threat and reckless driving.
After entering his plea of no contest, Durst was handed a suspended 120-day jail sentence, fined US$1,500 (AU$1,783) and ordered to perform 20 hours' community service.

Britney's lawyer says back off
Following Britney Spears' disastrous comeback performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last week, the "Gimme More" singer is now attempting to take control in her custody battle with ex-hubby Kevin Federline.
Spears' lawyer, Laura A. Wasser, filed a motion with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday 14 September asking that the court seal all legal papers to avoid media intrusion.
The move came in response to a legal challenge by People magazine and a US TV station, who want the documents to remain open in order to cover the battle.
"This is the perfect instance to stop the madness," Wasser told the court, saying she was determined to keep the press out of the proceedings.
Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is understood to be in favour of the motion.
Federline is currently attempting to gain more custody of the pair's two sons. The court proceedings are set to continue this week.

Madonna heads to the Holy land
US pop icon Madonna is in Israel on a "spiritual visit", despite death threats and criticism from orthodox Jews.
The singer and her husband, director Guy Ritchie, met with Israel's president, Shimon Peres, at his home in Jerusalem on the weekend, where the Nobel Peace laureate presented Madge with a copy of the Old Testament. She was also photographed singing Jewish songs and dancing during a Kabbalah celebration in Tel Aviv.
Meanwhile, critics on Israeli television have labelled her trip "an abomination".

Shakira heads back to school
Colombian hip-shaker Shakira has surprised staff at the University of California's Los Angeles campus by taking part in a class called Introduction To Western Civilization: Ancient Civilizations From Prehistory To Circa A.D. 843.
According to the singer's manager, Fifi Kurzman, the 30-year-old is taking time out from her career to enjoy her new studies.
"She told me she was visiting from Colombia and she was doing this for her own enlightenment and enjoyment," course lecturer Robert Cleve said.
"She looked like an ordinary student. She wasn't flamboyant… she didn't act like a big celebrity or anything. I was really impressed with how intelligent she was."

Across The Great Divide tour suffers setback
Powderfinger and Silverchair were forced to postpone a gig in Ballarat on the weekend after high winds tore a 15-metre hole in the venue's tent.
The Across The Great Divide tour is one of the biggest local tours ever undertaken, but even it had to admit defeat to Mother Nature when severe winds ripped through the Victorian town.
"When making the decision to postpone the show, our primary consideration was for the safety of the audience and the performers," the tour's promoters said.
The show has been rescheduled for tonight – but with winds continuing ticket-holders should check www.acrossthegreatdivide.com.au for further updates.

Amy Winehouse beefs up
Troubled British pop singer Amy Winehouse is on a health kick and determined to gain weight, according to her father.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror in the UK, Mitch Winehouse claimed the "Rehab" star (who's reportedly suffering from bulimia as well as drug and alcohol problems) is feasting on her favourite items, including yams, dumplings, bananas, jerk chicken and rice and peas.
"She looks stunning again now," Mr Winehouse said.
His daughter has recently been forced to cancel a number of shows for "health reasons".

Tommy Lee: I'm not quitting Mötley Crüe
[source: NME.com] Following reports earlier this week that Tommy Lee was quitting Mötley Crüe, Lee has issued another statement retracting his resignation.
Initially it appeared the drummer would leave the band after a row over a lawsuit, but now it appears he wants to work things out.
"I am a founding member of Mötley Crüe," he said. "I have tried to meet with my bandmates repeatedly (without success) but have informed them I'm not walking away from my band of 25 years.
"It troubles me that the current legal issues that were filed by the corporations against my personal manager are separating us and causing more dysfunction. I hope we can work this out amongst ourselves."
Fellow Crüe members Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx filed a lawsuit against Lee's manager, Carl Stubner, in a dispute over payments.

Eminem said: "I'm always working, I'm always in the studio. It feels good right now, the energy of the label. For a while, I didn't want to go back to the studio… I went through some personal things. I'm coming out of those personal things [and] it feels good."

Madonna and Britney Spears face beheading threat
[source: NME.com] Madonna and Britney Spears have been targeted as spreaders of "Satanic culture".
The comments were launched by spokesman and senior leader of Palestinian terror group The Popular Resistance Committees, a group based in the Gaza Strip and responsible for the increase in shootings and bombings in the region.
Muhammad Abdel-Al attacks pop stars in new book Schmoozing With Terrorists: From Hollywood To The Holy Land Jihadists Reveal Their Global Plans – To A Jew!, labelling them "prostitutes".
"If I meet these whores I will have the honour – I repeat: I will have the honour – of being the first one to cut the heads off Madonna and Britney Spears if they keep spreading their satanic culture against Islam.
"If these two prostitutes keep doing what they are doing, we will punish them."
The comments have been made just as Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie prepare to celebrate the Jewish New Year with 2000 Kabbalah followers in Israel.

Prince sues You Tube over concert footage
Prince is suing web giant You Tube, demanding they ban concert footage taken by punters without artists' permission.
According to the Minneapolis star, he wants to "reclaim his art on the internet".
"Prince believes strongly that the music rights must remain with the artist," a spokesman for the singer said.
"Thus, copyrights should be protected across the board… There have been very few artists taking similar action to try and reclaim rights on their music and Prince has never been one to shy away from challenging the systems."
Prince is also looking to take on online auction house eBay, according to Web Sheriff John Giacobbi, who Prince has enlisted.
"We are not targeting fans who might want to sell their copy of Purple Rain," he said. "We are targeting companies in China manufacturing Prince handbags and selling them in their thousands. There is a distinction to be drawn there."

Written and produced by London-based electro four-piece Kish Mauve, the track is the first taster from her new album, which will be released later that month.
According to Victoria Newton, a journalist at UK newspaper The Sun, the song is "a sure-fire number one, a classic Kylie song you won't stop humming".

Hook: New Order won't reform for anyone
Former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook is adamant New Order will not reform, although he hasn't completely ruled out a one-off performance in honour of recently deceased Factory Records owner Tony Wilson.
Wilson played a big role in Joy Division and New Order's careers but Hook insists there's no turning back after calling time on New Order earlier this year.
"The idea [to reform] has been mooted by Oliver Wilson [Tony's son]," Hook told the Manchester Evening News.
"That was when it was talked about. And the thing is, for Tony, I'd do anything."
People took Hook's word literally and the bassist was forced to address the reunion rumours on his MySpace page.
"This means I would sell the popcorn, take the tickets, sweep up after, or play bass in New Order/Joy Division/Crawling Chaos [for one gig]," he wrote.

Kanye West reveals real reason for same release date as 50 Cent
[source: NME.com] 50 Cent and Kanye West have appeared on US television together to hype the release of their respective albums, Curtis and Graduation.
Fiddy said he will retire from making music if West’s album outsells his, while West admitted he deliberately shifted his album release date to compete with 50’s disc.
After a coin-toss from the producers of 106 & Park: BET’s Top 10 Live, 50 Cent was awarded the opening slot on the show, during which he performed “Ayo Technology” and, in an interview, told presenters that “Kanye West doesn’t stand a chance”.
West pulled out the stops for his performance when he introduced Jay-Z to the stage during “Big Brother”. Following the performance, West explained how the albums really came to be released on the same day.
“The artwork was taking a long time and we had to move the date back for the artwork. And I said, ‘Let’s just do 9/11’ and they said, ‘50’s got that date’ and I said, ‘Okay let’s go’.“

Failed James Brown rape lawsuit leads to law change
[source: NME.com] The state of Illinois has changed some of its rape laws following a failed lawsuit against James Brown.
The new law, which will be implemented on Tuesday 1 January 2008, suspends the statute of limitations when the victim has been intimidated or manipulated into staying quiet.
The current law gives rape accusers only two years to sue.
Brown’s former publicist, Jacque Holland, accused him of rape, saying he assaulted her at gunpoint in 1988 and threatened to kill her if she told anyone what happened.
In 2005, Hollander tried to take the case to court, but it was rejected due to the length of time since the alleged incident took place. Brown’s lawyer denied the charge.
Hollander told Associated Press the new law has made her happy, despite the fact her case did not work out.
James Brown died late last year.

Tommy Lee calls nemesis "Kid Pebble"
[source: NME.com] Tommy Lee has addressed Sunday night’s tussle with Kid Rock at the MTV Video Music Awards in an internet posting.
The pair were involved in a fist fight, which led to Lee being kicked out of the event.
According to Lee, Kid Rock approached him and tapped him on the shoulder. Lee then stood up to give Rock a "semi-hug” and Rock punched him in the face.
Lee claimed the punch was “more like a bitch slap".
In his post, Lee went on to call Rock a “jealous country bumpkin”.
“I would like to apologise to MTV for the disrespectful bulls**t caused by a piece of s**t called Kid Pebble!”
Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, was subsequently cited by Las Vegas police for misdemeanour battery, a charge that carries up to six months in prison.

Janet Jackson: Super Bowl decision imminent
[source: NME.com] A US appeals court is to rule whether TV channel CBS deserved to be punished for singer Janet Jackson’s infamous breast exposure at the 2004 Super Bowl.
The third US Circuit Court Of Appeals in Philadelphia will decide if the Federal Communications Commission was right to impose a AU$662,272 fine.
CBS argued it should not be penalised for broadcasting “fleeting, isolated or unintended” images.
The FCC contends that the broadcast “violated longstanding prohibitions”.
The incident, which prompted more than 500,000 complaints, was famously attributed to “a wardrobe malfunction” by singer Justin Timberlake, Jackson’s partner on stage.
The FCC, however, claim CBS had some prior knowledge that the incident would take place, a charge the corporation robustly deny.
CBS said: “Lacking any evidence to support the initial speculations about network complicity, the commission instead reached the illogical conclusion that the half-time show was designed to ‘pander to, titillate and shock the viewing audience’.”
It said that Viacom – the network’s owner at the time – "did not know about it in advance and did not sanction it”.
The case CBS has brought against the FCC is one of a series of challenges made against its indecency regulations.

Michael Jackson sued for copyright in Brussels
Remember Michael Jackson’s 1995 hit, “You Are Not Alone”?
Belgian twins Eddy and Danny Van Passels do. They’ve successful sued the king of pop for copyright, with a Brussels court agreeing yesterday that the hit song is similar to a track penned by the duo two years prior.
Having spent 12 years in court fighting to gain recognition for their authorship – which, up to now, has been credited to R. Kelly – the twins' victory is soured by the fact that the judgement is only relevant for their home country.
“You Are Not Alone” was the first song ever to debut at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, but the twins are unlikely to receive any royalties.

Madonna threatens to “kill” Bloc Party security
Ever wanted to put Madonna in a headlock?
According to Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke, the London outfit’s Scottish tour manager gave the pop diva quite a surprise at July’s Live Earth concert when he marched Madonna out of the band’s dressing room when she showed up to say hello.
“She’s a super-huge fan. But our tour manager is this guy from Scotland who doesn’t know much about popular culture. So when she came in, he alerted security and security dragged her out in a headlock. It was really surreal, and everyone stopped speaking,” Okereke revealed yesterday.
“And all we could hear is Madonna cursing and saying she’s gonna kill these guys. She’s really tough because of all the pilates she does, so she got out of the headlock quite easily.”

The Black Eyes Peas fronted by… a Pussycat Doll?
She might have just scooped the Best Female award at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, but Black Eyed Peas' Fergie almost didn’t land a part in the Los Angeles outfit.
Her opponent for the singing gig? Pussycat Doll star Nicole Scherzinger.
Under contract at the time with the girl group Eden’s Crush, Scherzinger was forced to turn down an offer at joining the “My Humps’ group.
“We had some radio shows together and will.i.am actually met me and Fergie on the same night,” Scherzinger said.

Gallows singer to quit music?
Frank Carter, singer for UK punkers Gallows, says he intends to push his burgeoning music career to the backburner to focus on a career as a tattoo artist.
“Gallows is not my life,” Carter said of the band who are heading to Australia next month on the Taste Of Chaos tour.
“Never has been, never will. It’s a hobby I get paid for. I’m a tattoo artist and that will always be my life and job. Being in a band is something I do for fun. I quit the band four times before we signed to a major label. Gallows won’t last five years.”
Carter received some onstage tattooing at the 2007 Reading Festival, his skin inked by New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert.
“I spoke to Chad and said, ‘It’s one of those shows that’s so important to me, I want to remember it'. The design was a lock, to represent the Lock-Up Stage, with seven dots to represent 2007. It was absolutely shit and it hurt like hell, but it doesn’t matter.”
According to the flame-haired singer, fans needed worry just yet – there’s definitely another album in the works.
