[source: NME.com] U2 frontman Bono has spoken about his reaction to the recent violence in Myanmar in which nine people have been killed.
The country's Buddhist monks are leading protests against the military government's decision to double the price of fuel last month.
Despite peaceful protests by the monks, many have been arrested, hundreds of them dragged from their beds on Wednesday 26 September during invasions of the country's monasteries.
National League for Democracy Party leader Aung San Suu Kyi (for whom Bono wrote "Walk On") is reportedly under house arrest, with a heavily guarded presence on the street where she lives.
The protests were peaceful until yesterday when security forces opened fire on protesters.
Speaking at the premiere of "Across The Universe", Bono said he prayed the monks' non-violence would win out over the ugliness of the situation.
"There is jeopardy. I slept uneasily last night, and I'm sure everyone else that watched did too," he said. "How far are they going to have to go?"

Bright Eyes to team with Los Angeles Philharmonic
[source: NME.com] Bright Eyes will perform alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend.
The concert has been a labour of love for Conor Oberst, who's spent eight months composing the 60-piece orchestral score.
Band member Nate Walcott told Billboard just how difficult it's been, arranging parts for 40 strings, 11 brass and 12 woodwinds.
"It's hard to do anything on tour, let alone put together 15 arrangements for the Los Angeles Philharmonic."
The Bright Eyes band member also revealed that the show will comprise songs from the past eight years, many of which will contain orchestral elements.
Although there are no plans for any further orchestral concerts, Walcott has implied he would not be surprised if other shows materialised.

Martin Scorsese to film Beatles doco
Esteemed American filmmaker Martin Scorsese – who helmed the likes of The Departed and Goodfellas – is set to direct a documentary on late Beatles guitarist George Harrison.
It won't be the first time Scorsese has captured musicians on film: two of his works include 2005 doco No Direction Home: Bob Dylan and cult hit The Last Waltz.
"Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I'm looking forward to delving deeper," Scorsese said in an e-mailed press release.
"It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story," Harrison's widow, Olivia, said.
The former Beatle died of lung cancer and a brain tumour at the age of 58 on 29 November, 2001.
Meanwhile, Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino has said he wants to cast Ringo Starr in his next film.
"I'm Elvis over the Beatles any day of the week but there's always been something special about Ringo," the director said. "I've always thought he had the best stage presence in the band."

Kanye West is "just like Jesus", says mum
Kanye West's mother has compared her son to Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Jesus.
Discussing the hip-hop star's appearance at this weekend's Baltimore Book Festival, Donda West was asked whether being brought up in a middle-class neighbourhood had helped her son give a positive voice to hip-hop.
"I do think that Kanye is a voice that can definitely be used and should be used not only in hip-hop but across the arts," she told local newspaper The Baltimore Sun.
"I think he is broader than a genre. I think he has a calling to reach a number of people. Kanye keeps it real. He touches the people. You never know how words can save a person's life, physically or otherwise. People like Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi or, in my view, Barack Obama, or Jesus Christ – people whose job it is to tell the truth – I see that in Kanye."

Notorious B.I.G. not killed by cops, says witness
The murder mystery surrounding the death of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. took another twist yesterday when a key witness changed his story.
Former r&b artist Waymond Anderson is currently serving life in prison for his role in a separate murder, but yesterday confessed he lied about the involvement of a Los Angeles police officer in B.I.G.'s 1997 death.
Anderson initially implicated an officer in the shooting but now says he lied as part of a scam to help win a monetary settlement from the city.
B.I.G.'s murder remains unsolved.

Jay-Z to own his own stadium
US rap mogul Jay-Z is set to sponsor a stadium in New Jersey as part of a deal for his Rocawear clothing range.
The rapper – who once claimed he had "retired' from music, but is set to release his soundtrack to the new film Kingdom Come in November – has reportedly held discussions with the New Jersey Sports And Exposition Authority (NJSEA) over naming rights to the Meadowlands venue, currently owned by Continental Airlines.
"We're looking forward to presentations by bidders next week, and then we'll get into the process of evaluation," a NJSEA spokesman said, before revealing a deal would cost more than AU$683,682.
"I'm optimistic that we'll be able to better the current financial deal that we have with Continental."
