Van Halen to tour with Roth for first time in 22 years
[source: NME.com] Van Halen will tour North America this autumn with singer David Lee Roth for the first time in 22 years.
Original band members Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen were joined by Roth and his 16-year-old son, Wolfgang, who joins the line-up on bass, to make the announcement at a Los Angeles press conference on Monday morning.
"This is the press conference you never thought you'd see, especially while we were still young, skinny and good-looking," Roth quipped after the band took the stage.
"It's a new band with a new sound and new energy from Wolfgang, but we'll play songs you know," Roth said.
Van Halen were originally set to tour earlier this year, but postponed the jaunt when Eddie Van Halen announced he was entering rehab.
When asked whether he was feeling up to the task, Eddie responded: "I'm at my best now. We are a band and we're gonna continue."
The group also revealed they intend to record a new album.
"We're already plotting and planning," Roth said. "This is not like The Police. The idea is that it will continue on and on."
The tour is set to begin on Thursday September 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina and will hit several major US cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, before concluding in Calgary, Alberta on Tuesday December 11.

JBT drummer attempts to save drowning man
John Butler Trio drummer Michael Barker attempted to save a man from drowning in Ross Creek, Townsville, last week.
On Friday August 10, Barker, who was riding through the town at 8.15am, was alerted to calls for help from 22-year-old victim Shane Soloman.
"I just heard a bit of a ruckus and there was a lady calling for help, so myself and another gentleman went down to assist. We slid down the embankment, which was quite a steep climb," Barker said.
"The other gentleman was administering some chest compressions, but he was oozing a lot of froth, which wasn't a good sign. He had a huge bump on his head."
Unfortunately, the pair couldn't resuscitate Soloman, who was declared dead at the scene by ambulance officers.

Madonna to celebrate 50th with live show?
Madonna is reportedly set to celebrate turning 50 with a huge live spectacle in New York City's Central Park.
While the milestone is still almost a year away (August 16, 2008), tabloid reports suggest the singer has opened talks about the event.
"One of the ideas she loves is to do Central Park on her birthday. She came up with it and has been discussing it as a serious possibility," a source told UK rag The Sun.
"She doesn't like getting older but she knows there's no way she can pretend her birthday isn't happening. She is planning to kick off a world tour next June in America to promote her new album. Playing at Central Park would be the highlight. She sees it as a huge televised event."

My Chemical Romance lead Kerrang! nominations
American emo rockers My Chemical Romance top the list of nominations for the annual Kerrang! Awards. They're up for four gongs, including Best Album, Best Single, Best Video and Best International Band.
The awards, held at The Brewery in East London on Thursday August 23, have seen more than 400,000 votes cast through the magazine's website, with some of the biggest names in rock – including Enter Shikari, Fall Out Boy, Lostprophets, Muse and 30 Seconds To Mars – vying for top prizes.
Meanwhile, My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way told Rolling Stone some of his "confusing" onstage comments were due to his former battles with alcohol.
"I would make crazy speeches that made no sense onstage," he recalled.
"I would talk about purifying flames being shot out of our cabinets at max volume to destroy evil and shit like that. I was, you know, touched in the head."
