Bodyguard: "Britney doesn't listen to nobody"
[source: NME.com] Britney Spears' former bodyguard has appeared on US TV to speak about his role in the singer's custody battle.
Tony Barretto appeared with lawyer Gloria Allred on The Today Show on Tuesday 24 September and discussed Spears' use of drugs and alcohol.
He said he saw Spears use drugs in a Los Angeles nightclub and described how she ordered him to hold a curtain in front of her for privacy while she used drugs.
Barretto also recalled an incident in which he accompanied her to a private bathroom and waited outside for some time. When he became concerned, he opened the door and witnessed her using drugs again.
He also described finding Spears in a Los Angeles hotel room "completely strung out, sweaty and shaking".
"It was almost forbidden to talk to her about her personal life," Baretto revealed, "and Britney doesn't listen to nobody."
Barretto's lawyer, Gloria Allred, who also represents Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline, said: "The court did find that she is a continuous, frequent and habitual user of controlled substances and alcohol and we believe that is because of Baretto's declaration."
When asked why he spoke out about Spears' private life, Barretto said he was trying to protect the singer's two young children.
"My frustrations at the time when I worked for her were not being able to protect them from her, and I have accomplished that now," he said.

McCartney is said to be keen to get involved with the next instalment in the animated series, as three-year-old daughter Beatrice is a big fan.
"I'm a huge fan of Shrek", McCartney told The Sun. "As is my little girl. I can do a really good impression of him – I put on my best Scottish accent!"

Dr Dre's new album to be his last
[source: NME.com] Dr Dre has confirmed new album Detox is likely to be his last solo record.
The follow-up to 1999's 2001, which was supposed to be out this year, will now be released in 2008, with Dre admitting he still has two or three tracks to record.
"I was really hoping to have it out this year, but it's going to be pushed back a while because of some other things I've got to work on."
Dre's currently producing the new Eminem album and confirmed he'll be trying to get that finished before wrapping up work on his own record..
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about his decision to stop releasing music, Dr Dre said he prefers producing and writing without the rigmarole of interviews and promotional appearances.
"I think it's time to move on," he said, before calling performing "a young man's game".
Shedding light on some of the reasons behind Detox's long gestation, Dre said: "When I think of the future, I think of Quincy Jones. Look at the quality of his work over the years. He didn't even make his best record, Thriller, until he was 50. Nothing pulls you back into the studio more than the belief that your best record is still ahead."

Dave Grohl: "I nearly gave up music after Kurt died"
[source: NME.com] Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has spoken of the moment he almost gave up music following the death of lead singer Kurt Cobain.
Speaking on Virgin Radio, Grohl revealed his feelings of confusion after Nirvana split.
"When Nirvana was finished I didn't really know what to do. Our lives and our world were turned upside down," he explained. "It's hard to imagine playing music after something like that. It was hard for me. I had always written and recorded songs by myself. I wouldn't really play them for anyone."
Grohl, who has fronted Foo Fighters since 1995, went on to pinpoint the moment he returned to the studio.
"After Nirvana was finished I spent a lot of time just travelling around and thinking. Then I thought, 'I know what I will do, I'll book six days in the studio down the street from my house and I'll record my favourite 12 or 13 songs I've ever written'," he said. "I never thought I'd still be here doing this. Never."

Jason Donovan confirms OD, feels sorry for Amy
Former Neighbours star and singer Jason Donovan has confirmed he overdosed on cocaine at Kate Moss's 21st birthday party.
Currently writing his autobiography, Donovan says he overdosed at the party, held at Johnny Depp's Los Angeles Club, The Viper Room.
"I knew the symptoms all too well, for it was not the first time this had happened to me," he wrote in Between The Lines: My Life Uncut.
"My heart was racing, my vision was blurring and I was becoming disorientated… I am not sure what happened next but I do know that someone had pulled the plug on the music and was calling for an ambulance."
Donovan also admitted feeling sympathetic towards troubled pop stars like Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears.
"I was only 17 when I walked into a television show that totally changed my life. Britney Spears is a classic example – a lot of money, very famous, very young and she just wants to rebel… I can understand it, I've been there. My advice to Amy or Britney would be, if you don't like it, become a plumber."

Elton John calls for British PM's support in AIDs battle
Sir Elton John has called on new British PM Gordon Brown to commit to the battle against the AIDS epidemic in Africa.
With a planned G8 meeting due to take place next week (which will see government heads from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States come together), the "Candle In The Wind" songwriter said he hopes Brown will ensure the G8's pledge to make AIDS treatments universally available within three years is maintained.
"I believe Gordon Brown's leadership and vision on this issue is urgently needed," John said. "After all, he played a central role in bringing world leaders to commit to universal access, and he helped found the Global Fund, which has proven itself by saving an estimated 1.8 million lives. If the UK were to provide AU$1632 million over three years, tripling its annual contribution by 2010, it would challenge the rest of the world to follow suit."
