Duran Duran shoot X-rated video in LA
[source: NME.com] Duran Duran have shot two versions of a new video for forthcoming single "Falling Down", with one edit particularly racy.
The song, co-written and produced by Justin Timberlake, is the lead track from new album Red Carpet Massacre, which is due out in mid-November. And, just as the band did for 1981 single "Girls On Film", they've produced two versions of the video to please the censors.
Inspired by a fashion magazine photo shoot that depicted models in rehab, the clips were shot with director Anthony Mandler at an old hospital in downtown LA.
Original band members Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor dressed sharply in white suits, portraying doctors, while several glamorous models – some topless – portrayed girls in treatment.
"The concept of models in rehab has so much to do with what the song's about," frontman Le Bon told NME.
"It's very sad but there's a kind of beauty in it as well. The song is about arrogance and pride, as well as personal breakdowns and the hope for redemption and the resilience of the human spirit," he said.
Le Bon said the song's theme subconsciously came from a severe motorcycle accident he was involved in back in 1992.
"I was thrown to the ground at 90 miles an hour and I had enough time to think, 'If I survive this accident, I'll never race again'," Le Bon recalled.
"That's what I was referring to in the song. It was very personal and very easy to write. It's not about motorcycle racing, but I remember thinking, 'Please let me survive, I don't want to die'."

My Chemical Romance slam emo
[source: NME.com] My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has tried to distance the band from the "emo" tag, going as far as calling the genre a "pile of s**t" during an interview with American college website The Maine Campus.
"I think there are bands that we get lumped in with that are considered emo and, by default, that starts to make us emo. All I can say is that anyone actually listening to the records, putting the records next to each other and listening to them, [would know there are] actually no similarities."
The singer went on to talk about his band's upcoming support slots with Bon Jovi.
"It's a huge honour," he said. "I grew up as a Bon Jovi fan."

George Michael retracts HIV interview
[source: NME.com] George Michael has asked the BBC to drop an interview in which he openly discusses his fears of having HIV.
The BBC have since confirmed the interview will no longer feature in upcoming TV documentary Stephen Fry: HIV And Me.
The two-part programme examines the spread of HIV, and even results in presenter Stephen Fry taking an HIV test himself.
George Michael's interview reportedly quotes him as saying he "does not believe in tests".
BBC producer Ross Wilson explained: "He says he finds the wait for results too harrowing and that he hasn't had a test since at least 2004 due to his fears it might be positive."
The pop singer's partner, Anselmo Feleppa, died of an Aids-related illness in 1995.
Addressing the interview removal, Michael's spokesman said: "On reflection, he felt it was too close and too personal a journey."

Rod Stewart's son to face criminal charges
Aspiring model Sean Stewart – 27-year-old son of English crooner Rod Stewart – will go to court next month, charged with throwing a brick at a car while attending a Hollywood party in April.
Yesterday a Los Angeles judge ruled Stewart – the producer of reality TV show Sons Of Hollywood – should go to trial, after witnesses claimed he threw a brick at a couple in a pick-up truck. The brick allegedly caused considerable damage to the vehicle but not its occupants.
Pleading not guilty, Stewart reportedly has witnesses who'll state it wasn't him who threw the missile, but, according to Judge Julius Title, "it will be up to the trial court to decide the credibility of the witnesses".

Johnny Rotten lays into Sting
Former Sex Pistol frontman John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) has labelled Sting a "soggy old dead carcass".
Speaking about The Police's 2007 reunion, the spiky-haired vocalist said it was all a load of bollocks.
"That really is a reformation isn't it?" Lyndon quipped. "But honestly, that's like soggy old dead carcasses…
"Listening to 'Stink' trying to squeak through 'Roxanne' one more time isn't fun. It's like letting air out of a balloon."
Lyndon also offered his own personal insight into troubled British stars Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty.
"It's a slow suicide and it's a cry for help because they're in pain. They're in mental pain," he said. "And this is a disgusting industry because people just cut you dead. The general public aren't too wise about what that means to be constantly in the limelight. It's a pain in the arse."

Britney Spears to undergo drug tests
A US judge has ordered Britney Spears to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week in order to meet with custody stipulations in her current battle with former husband Kevin Federline.
"Based on the evidence presented, the court finds that there is a habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol," Superior Court Judge Scott M. Gordon said.
Gordon also issued a statement ordering both Spears and Federline to "refrain from drinking and using drugs around their two young children and 12 hours before either cares for them", however only Spears was ordered to undergo random testing.
Spears must also meet for eight hours a week with a "parenting coach" and complete the court's Parenting Without Conflict class.

Kaiser Chiefs to head back into the studio?
English indie rockers Kaisers Chiefs say they're desperate to start work on the follow-up to 2007's Yours Truly, Angry Mob.
According to drummer Nick Hodgson, the band have a slew of new material they've so far been unable to capture on tape.
"We are just really desperate to write some new stuff," Nick confessed to Billboard.com yesterday.
"We don't know exactly what we're going to put out, but it will be next year. We're very keen on breaking the cycle of what normal bands do, which is an album every two years, tour for a year-and-a-half and then take six months to write the next one. Not only does it get predictable, it gets boring. A lot of our contemporaries do the same thing."
